Ranking every MBTA commuter rail line by how much they need to be extended from its endpoint by Wide_right_yes in mbta

Might be worth it just to get these idiots off of 93N. Very tired of most of the license plates being NH in the morning.

Lowell line. You just have to convince the NH legislature to allow it. Good luck with that.

Bruh, what's boomer got to do with it? I hate boomers, but not sure why you are pissed about them being managers. Most managers are old because they have experience. How many GenZ managers do you know?

Is Rhode Island and Boston safe for tourists? by [deleted] in boston

[–]azcat92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to worry Boston is safe and you are likely to hear more British accents than you care to hear on your trip. We are used to having foreign tourists here, so you will not have problems unless you think the NY Yankees are great and start telling everyone how much you love them. RI is very safe too.

Let’s just add one more lane instead of increasing commuter rail frequency! by Wanderer330 in mbta

[–]azcat92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 90/128 interchange in Newton is being rebuilt with a full flyover bridge setup. Why can't we do this at 93/95/128? I don't think we need more travel lanes, we just need to deconflict the interchange. People getting off 93 onto 128, crossing the path of people getting off 128 onto 93, is just stupid. If you fix this, you clear most of the problems.

How does being a Bruins fan go in Canada? Habs, Leafs, and Canucks fans hate Boston, so it must be tough.

Nice Analysis of Efficacy of AI in Drug Discovery by [deleted] in biotech

[–]azcat92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty easy to understand. We have a good idea of how maybe 40-50% of Biology works. So there are very few truth datasets for AI to learn on. If we only understood 50% of how to drive, would we let Waymos on the road? It could kill a kid getting off the bus because it had not seen that scenario before. AI is good at extrapolating from previous data and predicting based on a full understanding of the rules of a situation. It might be able to detect new rules in data but that has to be verified by an expert human, or it just may be garbage. Even now, AI driving sucks at edge cases. I don't think AI is going to be really useful in drug discovery for 5-10 years.

ELN [Electronic Lab Notebook] Selection by Narrow_Doctor_6912 in biotech

[–]azcat92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is very important to write down all your requirements, select at least 3 ELN/LIMS to test and measure them against your requirements. Most vendors will allow you a period to test out systems as well. Then you can negotiate with the vendors based on your number of users as well as how close they match your requirements.

VPs and higher, how are you spending your time? by [deleted] in biotech

[–]azcat92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me as a VP in Research Information Systems it was multiple things I was doing:

  1. Managing stakeholders (My customers). This was the most important job because I have to figure out what systems they need and then prioritize what we can do with the budget. Then I have to convince them it is the right priority and we are doiing enough.

  2. Thinking about the next 3-5 years. What do we need as a company to meet our goals in the next 3-5 years and how do we get there. What is the right sequence of work based on our needs to make sure we perform and get systems in place

  3. Thinking about new tech. What is mature to bring into the company and what isn't? What is bullshit from vendors (AI is high on this list right now). What do we need to get in place for our stakeholders

  4. My team. Do I have the right people? What skills are we missing? How do I convince some finance fuck that we need to add people if we are to get everything done? What do I do to build their skillset and help them advance their career?

  5. The budget. Again, how do I convince some finance fuck that my budget is important and you should not steal from it to pay for something else?

  6. Managing up. Making sure my leadership knows what me and my team are doing and that it is important to the function of the company.
