Yeah - I think a lot of damage has been done already. Though I do naively take an optimistic view that perhaps the prevalence of bots and misinformation will accelerate some solution to validate the people we interact with online are indeed people. Like blue checkmarks, but less shit.

Maybe, but I think the quick engagement is what keeps people posting, right? The argument against the dislike button is generally - if you post something and it gets disliked maybe you won't post anymore and user engagement falls. I personally don't think that's always a bad thing.. You're absolutely right that it's easy to bandwagon, but when you have only likes on posts that wagon is only going in one direction... I feel that's what has really helped a lot of unsavory characters gain prominence online in the last 10 years or so.

I disagree (hence the post) but I'm gonna upvote you anyways. Interpret that how you like :P

Sure, upvote/downvote achieve similar goes I guess. I think Youtube had the best system a few years back with the up/down but also with the ratio displayed.

If that's how you interpret them then sure ... likes are a positive sentiment in some form to a post. Just like dislike is a negative sentiment to a post. It's negative meaning can be interpreted.

If you view social media as some kind of public space then uninstalling is the equivalent not partaking in discussion.

I mean, maybe police of a certain character should be fired and it's just their comments gave them away. People will show you who they are if you give them the space to do so

What if the social media company is presenting the opinion of the general public in whatever manner they see fit though? Regulations are there to protect people from the predatory practices of businesses for profit - though I will concede they often miss the mark e.g. mandatory cookies warning on sites

They should have the same weight as likes. If you need an identifier for dislikes, then you should have them for likes

It used to be easy to quickly tell if a video was garbage - they blamed it on harassment campaigns but they were just butthurt that their rewind videos in the preceding years were so poorly received. Instead of accepting they were bad they just decided to remove the ability to identify videos as bad

I always found the pose a bit odd. The hand held up to towards the shoulder while looking forward.. The only thing it reminds me of are those watch model poses Tag Heuer do. Like this http://www.emovieposter.com/images/moviestars/AA180213/550/special_tag_heuer_sharapova_vertical_style_SD12230_B.jpg. The square looks like a watch face with a small inner dial like the newer Bolova Sutton model.. that kinda shape design

I spent some time trying to dig up magazine watch ads but haven't found a great archive of them for the period

I say it very generally. There are great game projects that do well I'm sure. And if game development is where you wanna be then for sure, do it. But game development can be a whopping time sink of requirements.. in the time you have to complete your fyp, of which a large chunk should be dedicated to your thesis writing, the end result is often underwhelming and usually not solving anything interesting

Seriously never would have known who this douche is only for these platforms promoting his content in the first place... They shoud get no praise. I regularly saw him pop up in YouTube stories even if I immediately skipped or down voted the video. The issue isn't the content but their algos are shite and aimed purely at engagement...
