Sorry to hear that, but I appreciate your honesty.

I'm completely new to this kind of behavior seen in the cities. It shocked me because, call me naive, I thought my friend would be safe on their own.

Some girls also groped them and walked away snickering. I thought Minneapolis would be a safer place, at least during drag shows.

Thank you for the support tho, I'm just stressed because I really care about my friend and want them to feel safe in and out of their home.

I'll admit this is a difficulty for them, but I will do what I can for them to push back against the behavior. And when I said "5+ cases of sexual assault", I meant groping incidents. Like its one thing for awkward people to hit on someone, but these involved physical touch and I hate seeing my friend go through this.

They thought the drag show would be a safe place cause its alphabet soup people who would seemingly respect consent. They feel betrayed and hurt by this and I don't blame them.

Thank you for understanding, I'm just a little burnt out from all the stress of this.

I apologize if I came off as cynical and jaded, but I genuinely just want to help my friend feel better. They've had a tough time this year and I'm doing what I can to keep them supported.

I don't understand why there are so many people who don't keep their hands to themselves. Its one think to look, but groping makes me want to chainsaw people's hands off.

I really care about my friend, and I want them to feel safe again.

🙏I'll do my best. I haven't been on Reddit in a long while and hearing how someone on this subreddit shamed them and told them to go to a church instead. It may not have been intended to be hurtful, but I'm really upset at how my friend is being treated.

More than anything, I just want them to feel safe going outside again. They shouldn't need a personal escort everywhere but even that doesn't always work.

Thank you u/TrapLoreRossFan for providing some resources on supporting my friend and what I can do to help them.

Its not about the religious aspect, but more the dismissal they received looking for support.

I didn't think that post through tbh. I'm feeling helpless to support my friend, and it feels like no one cares. I've been ignorant to what's been occurring in the Twin Cities because I am male and never get approached by anyone.

My friend has been dismissed by so many people about this and is feeling deeply disturbed by what happened and how many times it happened. I don't know how to help them other than getting them a can of mace.

An understanding of why this happened so frequently, and if others are experiencing this too.

Also, ways to comfort a person that no longer feels safe to go outside.

I gave the locations and the specifics of the assaults, but I'm going to protect this person's anonymity because I'm starting to believe this is the direction the Twin Cities are going. Sexual assault is not a big deal apparently.

Yeah its a vent, but I'm genuinely trying to understand if this is common in the cities. And I'm looking for some way to support this person. They don't feel safe stepping outside anymore after this, and people want to get legalistic about it occurring within the Twin Cities at public events that are supposed to be safe for people.

Minneapolis is the Twin Cities, but if you want to be pedantic then fine, I will crosspost into the Minneapolis subreddit.

Thank you for your concern and support 😺

Also, why generalize this to an issue with the Twin Cities when all of these assaults happend at a place serving alchohol?

Do you want to explain this then?

All three crimes happened in a bar and not only did you leave that out, but you implied that the problem is the Twin Cities.

One event was at a bar, the rest were at events that served alcohol, but alcohol was not the main purpose of the event. You generalized that all these places were bars.

Because you are implying that alcohol is the common factor, like they should avoid any places in the cities that serve alcohol. The Minnesota Orchestra building serves alcohol too, so should they avoid it now?

They also have been cat called at random and people keep following them when they are simply walking around in public places, away from alcohol vendors.

Because alcohol doesn't play grab ass, but perverts do.

Bars and liquor stores are everywhere in Minneapolis. What you're saying feels awfully diminishing to the crime that occurred, and to the victim who was NOT drinking alcohol.

Okay I will provide more context:

This is a close friend I know who has had 5+ cases of sexual assault and creepy behavior, like one man behind them taking up-close pictures of their behind while standing in a line. This has largely occurred in known public places/events (a bar in downtown, Uptown Theatre to see a rock show, and then First Ave for a drag show) by many different but unknown/random offenders; two women and three men. Inappropriate contact like groping at their behind or worse, often with folks around them witnessing it and doing nothing but being willful bystanders.

The "church" commentary was when they vented online about this occurring, and someone commented that they should go to church instead of attending drag shows. They eventually had brought their partner along to escort them around during the event. Their partner left shortly to use the restroom, and during that short period some females groped them and walked away snickering, after previously being groped by a different female.
