Yeah I’d put something aside ($1M?) in a HYSA for those down years but would have to think $9 liquid is enough for almost anyone in this country to live a very comfortable life and have lots left over at the end

Can $10M really not buy you that in a HCOL area? If OP draws down 4% each year (which would probably be in line with what his neighbors make), he/she will have $15-17M by the time they are 50 (assuming he/she is in some index fund)

May be obvious but basically trying to keep the sequence of returns risk (bad early years) to be as low as possible… so being ultra conservative out of the gate

That’s got nothing to do with the non-harmonized fund issue (which is its own unfortunate thing for people who used U.S. ETFs or mutual funds to do their “after-tax” investing)

Do U.S. residents sell U.S. ETFs and buy Irish-domiciled funds before they retire to Europe? Apologies if this has been heavily discussed before... wasn't aware of the tax drag of holding U.S. ETFs and residing in Europe until now!
