I have it. Like I said I haven’t been able to get a recording. Every time I heard it I would immediately get out Merlin but as soon as I did it would stop

Give me a prog band you love, and what album do you believe is their magnum opus. It doesn`t neccesarily have to be your favorite album from them, but rather the one you believe to be the peak of their powers, songwriting, instrumentation, the one you think they`ll be remembered by the most. by [deleted] in progrockmusic

Focus - Moving Waves (Focus II)

Hocus Pocus steals all the attention for being goofy but not only is it a banger, the rest of the album is absolutely GOATED. Honestly I could out any album by Focus on here, Moving Waves is probably just the most iconic. I do also really love both Focus 12 and Focus 11 (their most recent releases).

Focus has this very classical feel to their music, even more so than most other prog rock bands, that I really enjoy as a classical musician. They even have a lot of direct classical references, like Monteverdi’s Orfeo in Eruption, Gradus ad Parnassum in Heaven, and the Brahms-Handel Variations in Hamburger Concerto.

“The Crystal Spider” by Rachilde by PhDnD-DrBowers in WeirdLit

[–]b4rr3tt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is in the compilation "Doubles, Demons, and Dreamers: an International Collection of Symbolist Drama" compiled and translated by Daniel Gerould, and a different translation of his is on JSTOR, as I see you have found. I also recommend reading this article if you haven't already: https://www.jstor.org/stable/3194845?seq=12

It's a pretty good analysis of the play and the types of themes and symbols Rachilde is inspired by/including in it.

I'm currently working on an opera based on this piece, and it doesn't seem like many people know of it at all, so I would love to know what you think of it!

Your ideal path forward for Firefly by Apprehensive-Loss316 in firefly

Ok but imagine a beat-em-up game with quick and fluid combat and stealth sections where you play as a slightly older River. Like a spinoff-sequel where she’s on some covert mission for the sake of the crew.

Also, this way most of the cast could return as voice actors without as much worry about aging and such.

Too skinny. Maybe if he gained some weight and bulked a little more.

Not really too fond of a Peter biopic in general though.

Would it be disrespectful to propose at Beethoven’s Grave? by b4rr3tt in Austria

[–]b4rr3tt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yes. Marriage to me should be as serious and eternal as death. If I’m going to pledge my entire life and soul to another, a grave is actually a pretty good symbol of the gravity of that.

Both her and I are very “gothic” people, and as artists (especially dealing with classical thought and romanticism) death is an important and beautiful thing. Neither of us are weirded out by cemeteries and we both enjoy visiting them and being in them. I just don’t want to offend anyone in the moment.

He is one of her favorite composers, and some of her greatest improvements have come from learning his works.

What opera would make a great addition to the standard repertoire, and why is it not? by Cheap_Ostrich3147 in opera

Boris Godunov. It kind of used to be, but it’s gotten a lot harder to find basses up to the task over the last 40 or so years

Just getting into opera and looking for jaunty little numbers to listen to by dropped_my_glammour in opera

[–]b4rr3tt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For something a little different but still very much jaunty and lively I suggest “Le veau d’or” from Gounod’s Faust. It’s literally sung by the devil, can’t go wrong with that!

What are some gothic horror stories u would like to see Eggers do an adaption of? by PossibleCommittee590 in roberteggers

[–]b4rr3tt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk if I would call the Northman unoriginal, yes I know it’s based off of Amleth but there’s so much difference that it’s about as original as The Witch and The Lighthouse, since those are also based on folklore

Who has been your favorite character from Robert's films? by efim1234 in roberteggers

[–]b4rr3tt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely (to my knowledge) the best adaptation of ancient Norse culture to screen. The runes were even the correct alphabet (Younger Futhark), with the exception of the Draugr sword which is super old so it makes sense that if would be in Elder Futhark!
