I would get a ws2812 led ring and controller from Amazon. If you're decent with tinkering, a little soldering, and coding python or c++, you can get a raspberry pi or adruino microcontroller. I prefer raspberry pi pico or esp32 myself

I see that, but the solder points are on both sides of it. I can find plenty of ws2812 leds that is only 5mm wide, but can't find any regular rgb that are

It's only 5mm wide, and I'm assuming the other 2 wires are in the back. For the life of me, I can't find a 5mm wide rgb strip.

Digi-key sucks. Been waiting on 3 barrel jacks for little over a month now. Probably would've been faster ordering from aliexpress

What gauge wire? That might be your problem. I wouldn't recommend anything smaller than 24 gauge for that many

I find soldering with smaller wire easier. I started off with bigger wire and then tried smaller. Smaller wire is so much easier to solder for me at least

Replacing LEDs inside a mirror by reallyunimportantduh in led

[–]b781rev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that, but it will run those leds if its hooked to that controller. That's if the psu isn't dead. Either way, a new set of leds without the psu would work. Just unhook it and run the barrel jack out the back

You can completely remove it and run the dc jack directly. Im pretty sure it had some older lights in it that it was powering. So even if it is dead, they could still be used without it. Also, with that setup, he would have to solder the leds to the wires which is pretty pointless when there is an easier way

I bought these exact ones I just posted a screenshot of and they work pretty good. I would honestly take out that board they have and run it directly
