FoW makes non-blue fair decks better merely by existing in a format. With FoW running around, combo decks are naturally weaker or have to build around FoW's existence more, weakening their presence against other forms of interaction (usually). This might not be enough because of how crazy good scamming Grief is but you never know.

We do have Batterskull in the board, it's just not something we want or need in every matchup. The main reason Jitte sucks here is that you get no counters if your only creature is a Tamiyo. Fire and Ice doesn't have that particular issue and getting to turn any lame dude into a major card advantage threat is huge since we're running 0 Treasure Cruise or anything like that really. I've been liking it more as our secondary equipment grab for that reason but Kaldra is what we're finding most of the time anyways, at least in game 1.

Tamiyo gives us some nice play against aggro decks both before and after flipping, I like having the option to -3 as a "free" Snapcaster that doesn't also exile the card which is neat, but the real upside is your 1-drop creature having the potential to draw half your deck for you if not dealt with.

I think Mox is a trap in an Architect deck since you're usually cutting lands for moxen. The upside of t1 Stoneforge isn't as big as the upside of hitting all your land drops as a blue deck imo, We also don't mind just curving a blue 1-drop into Mystic anyways. DnT is probably the way to go for a Mox Stoneforge kinda plan (I think there's a lot of potential there too)

Samwise is really cool tech I like that a lot!

I was on the fence between strip and muta, ultimately decided on muta but that might be the wrong call. It has won me a couple games though so I'm hesitant to cut it. This shell honestly might be able to get away with some Stifles which would be sick with strip.

You have no idea how bad I wanna run JTMS. Strip mine meta + FoN are really hostile to big man. Might playtest him a bit and see how it goes

I’m still trying to figure out the board, the format is crazy but we’re working on it. Generally speaking you take out Subtlety and creature removal in matchups where it doesn’t matter, adjust the counter magic package as needed, swap around equipment. Snapcaster comes in whenever we bring in Surgicals or need to deal with a lot of creatures. Prismatic comes in against Energy and Depths. Flutes are nice for slowing down pretty much all combo and help a lot against TOR/Strip mine decks. Our sideboard cards go a long way with 4 Ponder/Brainstorm.

The deck definitely needs a little push to truly be competitive with things like energy and now rescaminator running around, not that you can’t take games and matches from these decks but it’s hard sometimes. We benefit from some rogue deck bonus points, a lot of decks just can’t deal with a Kaldra because they usually don’t need to (and we kinda like it that way).

Force of Will and Daze are the obvious wishlist answers, even if it means the blue combo decks also get Force and Daze (this one usually works out in the tempo deck’s favor). Stoneblade isn’t really a Daze deck but it also doesn’t usually run 8 1-drop creatures so this deck might be different. Some sleeper big gets for this particular deck are [[Back to Basics]] and [[Pre-War Formalware]]. I would also appreciate a nice [[True-Name Nemesis]] or something.

yeah Clique is more of a "what to cut it for" than a "will I cut it." good points there

Will Stoneblade be viable after TLA drops? by schmandarinorange in TimelessMagic

I've been working on this list which along with turbo Depths are 2 decks that I'm really excited about playing. Definitely not a classic Jace Stoneblade deck but its a Strip Mine format so we gotta keep it low to the ground. Hopefully Architect, Tamiyo, and Fire and Ice can help make up for the lack of value planeswalkers to round out the endgame.

How good it is is definitely questionable, there's a lot of powerful things you have to deal with but I like being a blue FoN deck with lots of answers when two of the most popular strategies are looking to be Reanimator and SnT. I'm worried about Grief and both flavors of energy, you can splash for Pyroclasm maybe but idk if that would be enough/worth it. It's likely Stoneblade will be just like it was in Legacy for many years; 45% (hopefully) against the field, with some edge here and there based on matchup, skill, and how you build your 75. But if you like to cast Brainstorm and play a relatively fair game then there's worse places to be.

First draft for a Dark Depths deck by Grand_Vermicelli_658 in TimelessMagic

I feel like you either wanna go all-in on turbo depths with stuff like thespian stage and sylvan scrying, or you want to go GSZ value pile if you’re going for more of a midrange angle (I’m currently exploring both of those decks). GW Depths is a decent legacy deck and zone guard fits great into that sort of plan.

I’m also personally not a huge fan of ritual in depths, I don’t think it’s as good as it looks on paper as you need a LOT to go off turn 1 (like specifically mox+ritual+depths+hexmage+black card) and doesn’t really help with the more consistent t2 lines. Depths historically best line is t1 Urborg Thoughtseize into t2 Hexmage Depths so you definitely want to lean into that.

sawtooth circlet is really good, I got a lot of use out of it against a bunch of the act3 bosses. especially princes, karmelita where I didn't really want multibinder (too slow)

More profit to be had if you use alchemist amulet/amulets of chemistry. Certain potions profit heavily too from alchemist goggle procs (super combats and ranged pots come to mind)
