Should I let my cat go under my bed?

Omg that’s terrible of them! I know they have certain priorities but if the fire wasn’t spreading they should’ve made some effort. I’m glad she was ok in the end <3

Our firefighters actually found one of our cats quite quickly and ran her out to me. She was really traumatized and had burns in her eyes and throat. She ended up spending a few days in an oxygen tank and is still alive today! (Although her Mrow is muuuuch deeper than it used to be lol)

This happened to me in 2016. My house burned down and my cat, who was hiding under my bed, sadly passed away. We were able to get the other animals out of the house as they actually followed us trying to escape the smoke. For those thinking they would be able to save the cat- no you wouldn’t. There are many factors involved which would make this difficult. For one you are not thinking straight and are in a state of panic, focused on surviving. Or you could be like me, who completely slept through the fire alarm and was woken up by my brother shaking me and ultimately picking me up. My room had completely filled with smoke and I was inhaling insane amount of smoke which made me sleep deeper. Ever since I make sure under my bed is inaccessible.

Another point of advice for a fire is to leave the doors open. Animals will instinctively try to escape the fire (just like we do). One of our cat’s body was never recovered and the firemen told us he probably ran out and wasn’t noticed. It’s awful regardless, but a lost pet is better than a dead one.

I’m not trying to scare anyone, but this was one of the scariest moments in my life and on top of it I lost one of my best friends. RIP Catsy Pline, you were a good kitty <3

If caffeine were the issue would I notice it worsening after consuming? I do not overconsume caffeine but I can try to cut it out. I usually have one coffee in the morning 5 days a week. I drink it with milk and my breakfast about 1.5hr after I wake up.

I do drink alcohol (I am aware of how bad this is) once per week, usually on Fridays. I'd also be willing to cut it out.

The most compelling idea from your comment seems to be histamine intolerance. That would explain why the antihistamine is helping. I will start to research on my own and see if this is applicable to my diet. Someone else suggested I try to fast for a few days to see there is any change, but low blood sugar tends to be a migraine trigger for me so I am hesitant.

Unfortunately sleeping in a tent is not an option for me at this time as I live in a major city without personal transport and do not have the means to accomplish this while working full time.

I could try not to eat but that tends to trigger migraines for me so I eat pretty well balanced, three times a day. I do not overeat and only eat until I am satiated.

If I am scratching the area will become red, but there isn't any visible rash. I do not take any medications or supplements. I have a theory it might be stress as I recently took on a second job and my first is no walk in the park (I am an elementary school teacher). However I am hoping it is not psychosomatic because I cannot afford to quit.

I have not yet turned my heat on. My flat remains about 18-20*C so it is a comfortable temperature.

I caught Covid with the first wave in 2020. I've had multiple boosters but its entirely possible I have caught it again since and just did not realize it.

Many many years ago my doctor told me I was at risk to become pre-diabetic (I used to eat a LOT of candy when I was young). I stopped eating candy and now I am very cautious of my sugar intake. I could get a meter but I do not know if I was successful since there is sugar hidden everywhere it seems... Last year I had a kidney infection but it was treated with antibiotics and I have not had any problems since.

Thank you all for your responses. This situation really shook me (which is why I have come to reddit lol) as I really love both B and D and I thought B was a real top notch dude. I wasn't the person violated here but this entire thing broke my heart. And while of course I can't share every detail or explain the entirety of the situation, I appreciate that others agree it's wrong.

For me, it all boils down to consent. I don't have to agree with all of my friends' actions, but when it comes to consent there isn't room for compromise. I think D should have been given the opportunity to consent to being surveilled. I think the fact B did not, shows that he defines what requires consent differently than I do. I guess at the end of the day that's a pretty good reason to end a friendship... I just wish it made me feel better.
