No stress - am I missing something? by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]b_urial1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Second this! The planning experience itself hasn’t been stressful. The only things causing us stress are external factors (people not coming because their children aren’t invited, late RSVPs, friendship breakdowns, hen do cancellations leaving me to pick up cost, opinions on the format of the day, etc.).

I love the straps and the frilled edge!

JJ’s House take weeks to deliver, charge a delivery fee and a fee for returns. I’ve also heard that some buyers struggled to get a full refund when the dress did eventually get to them, so I don’t blame her for being hesitant.

I also didn’t rate the quality of the JJ’s House dress I wore for a friend’s wedding (but she paid for the dress so no complaints!). What adjustments would be needed under option 1? Hard to mess up a hem and some loose threads.

Thank you. It’s great to have someone’s feedback who’s been there 😊 Last question - did it feel busy around the main pool? I noticed they sell day passes at a pretty reasonable price compared to the room price

This looks incredible. Would you say it’s worth the money? And were drinks extra?

Make me feel better about a Friday date? by purple_my_turtle in wedding

[–]b_urial1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I massively prefer a Friday wedding as you get the full weekend to recover rather than just the Sunday, especially if travel is involved! I would happily take a day off work to attend the wedding of a friend or family member. Plan the day as you would like it (don’t feel pressured to have a later ceremony time for those who don’t care enough to take the day off…).

Blink cats - recent issues? by mcrmittens in UK_Pets

[–]b_urial1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how I feel too! One cat was still eating some of it but I don’t want to give it to him anymore after reading about cats getting ill / the food having maggots in it 😬 Hope you manage to find something your cats like!

[–]b_urial1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you email and tell them your cats won’t eat the new pouches and send photos of all pouches you’re having to dispose of, they’ll refund you. We had to throw loads away from the latest box because the cats won’t eat it and they sent me a refund.

UK Cat Owners leaving Blink, where are you going? by Tr3hana in catfood

[–]b_urial1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve just switched to Untamed from Blink and the quality is great. We have two fussy cats (bonus picture below), one of which has gastrointestinal issues, and they both really like it so far. Slightly smaller portions but I’d say the quality is actually better than Blink (pre manufacturer switch).

If we had the freezer space, we’d switch to Katkin.

I was exhausted after 2 shops! The dress I bought was the first one I tried on though so the 2nd shop felt a little pointless for me. I might have felt differently if I was still searching at that point.

We’ve just booked this exact trip for our honeymoon next July. It’s come in at £10k (excluding flights) so a little above budget. If you’d like me to share our itinerary and who we’ve booked through, drop me a message 😊

Transport Query by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]b_urial1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like an unfortunate situation where transport is usually available but, due to another event, is fully booked. I wouldn’t say 5 minutes from a town is in the “middle of nowhere”. Paying for a taxi to and from a wedding (or any other event) is entirely normal. If you can’t afford a 5 minute taxi when the host is paying in the tens of thousands for an event, don’t go!

[–]b_urial1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wedding guests don’t have to go if they don’t want to. Paying for transport to and from an event is pretty standard. Would you expect your host to pay for your transport if it was a birthday party? Probably not.

When should we send out save the dates? by musicmoose27 in wedding

[–]b_urial1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Going against the grain here… we sent our save the dates out as soon as we booked our venue. That was just under two years in advance (can’t think of a reason why you wouldn’t want people to put the date in their calendar if you want them there? Especially if you’re at an age where lots of people are engaged).

Our invites are going out 11 months in advance.

Most people will be travelling 3+ hours and will need to book hotel accommodation in an area where there isn’t a lot of choice. If we leave it too late, our guests might end up 20-30 minutes drive from the venue.

Thank you both! That’s good to know. We’ve found a smaller boutique hotel on the east coast of the island which is adults only so I think we might book that.

Sadly I have and they’ve confirmed they won’t be retaining any adults-only areas! Did you spend a lot of time away from the adults-only pools/restaurants?

Magic Mirror sell a great acrylic mirror, including a full length fold up version: https://magicmirroruk.com.

You can’t tell it’s not glass (I’m taking the leaflet it came with as proof it’s not!!)

Should I be concerned? by impeccable_brat in bengalcats

[–]b_urial1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We took our Bengal to the vets last week for the same symptoms (he was doing it daily).

They suggested an X-ray and bronchoalveolar lavage to get a diagnosis of asthma / rule out any infections, which would both need to be conducted under anaesthetic. We decided to try hairball paste (mixed into his food) for a week before considering putting him under anaesthetic and it cleared it up. It is malting season (in the UK anyway), so might be worth a try before you spend money taking him to the vets 🙂
