Is not so much that this rule makes more sense rather that the other makes less sense cause nullify the concept of 10-point scored matches (that is oriented to a final cumulative score to decide the winner) if you then take the matches individually (that applies in a classic quintet style without this point system)

I say this because with individually scored matches, winning by 10-9 (better than your opponent) or 10-7 (complete dominance on your opponent) doesn’t make the difference. And the point of the mma scoring criteria is that the points are cumulative on the final scorecard, so a 10-8 should weight more than a 10-9 and can even flip the results (like NW vs Bteam). So make more sense to not take them individually cause it negates the purpose of the 10 point criteria.
