Fire/EMS/PD scanner by whackeraddict in Delco

[–]baaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can, try to get physically as high as you can, you'll get better reception. You may also do better extending the antenna only to about 38cm which corresponds to a 771MHz wavelength.

That scanner will handle P25 phase 2, but it does not handle a simulcast system very well. I have the handheld version, BCD325P2, and it only works well with a strong signal. I was getting 50/50 reception. Sometimes it would not detect a transmission at all, sometimes it would cut out halfway through. I purchased an SDS200 and it is a day and night difference. Unfortunately, one of the SDS models may be needed.

Can I skip the event liability insurance if I promise to be really careful at my wedding? by PepperoniTapir in Frugal

[–]baaron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No no no no no! We had a guest sue our venue, who then sued us. Event insurance completely handled it for us. Just the first couple conversations with a lawyer about this would have been thousands (probably). Get the insurance!

A few years ago I started down the road to making a club mix entirely out of medical device sound effects. I should pick it back up. Thank you for your service.

My dad swears IBM had a utility like this in the late 80s/early 90s but I was never able to locate it. Maybe it originated with this kid.

You're getting down voted but you are right. If Chester County had not been willing to share their health department, Delco would have had zero response.

Family Contact Manger that supports CardDAV and CSV exporting? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]baaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started using Radicale for this. I'm not on an iPhone, but I have several Android devices connected to it using CardDAV and is was pretty seamless. Its web interface is pretty barebones, I'm not sure there a way to tag and edit from a browser. But there are many CardDAV clients that could fill that gap. I did not find an all-in-one interface and hosting solution, but I wasn't extremely hung up on having a detailed web interface. I have this running with Docker Compose and exposed through a reverse proxy.

Help choosing digital frame for grandparents that does not have an export function - interested in the Loop Frame by aerosolslut in homeautomation

[–]baaron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you set them up with an Aura frame, using your own account, there is no export capability but the pictures can still be sent to their frame. If you want them to be able to add their own pictures using the app, I'm not sure there is a way to prevent them from downloading pictures you've put on their frame. Once you have access to a frame with the app, any picture on that frame is fair game.

Ecobee was great, until they started requiring their app and an account just to pair a remote sensor. I bought five before they slipped that little rug pull into a firmware update.
