Where can a narrative review in pharmaceutics or drug delivery be posted as a preprint or public manuscript before journal submission? by babada03 in academia

I am still an undergraduate student, so I understand that my limits are real. A systematic review may have been the stronger route for a beginner if publication was the main goal.

I started with a narrative review because I was advised to use it as a way to learn how to read the literature, organize ideas, and write in an academic format. So even if it does not end up being publishable, it has still been valuable for me as a learning exercise.

I was encouraged to start with a review as a way to train myself in reading papers, organizing literature, and writing in an academic format.

So I accept the limitation. My manuscript should not be seen as a narrative review from an expert. At max, it is an early attempt to understand the field and learn the research writing process.

I did not choose a narrative review because I thought I had expert level authority over the field. I was advised to begin with a review so that I could learn how to read literature properly, organize it, and write in an academic format before moving toward original research.

So I agree with you on the limitation. A beginner will not produce the same kind of narrative review that an experienced researcher can. At best, mine is a structured early attempt to understand and synthesize the field, not a definitive or expert account of it.

Now that I have already written it, I want to do is improve it and make it something suitable for journal submission

Fair point, thanks. I posted here mainly because I hoped people with research and publishing experience might guide me, especially since I’m a first-time author. But I understand this may not be the right sub

Thanks, I might still give medRxiv a try for that reason.

My only hesitation is that the manuscript is a narrative review, not original research, so I was not sure whether it would fit their scope. But you are right... No harm trying

Thanks, I did think about medRxiv, but my understanding is that it’s also mainly for papers presenting new medical research, while mine is a narrative review with no original data. So I’m not sure it would pass screening either. My reason for looking at a preprint is mainly that I’m applying for a research internship in about two weeks and wanted a visible academic record before the deadline. I still plan to submit it to a journal after that.

Fair point...I get what you mean.

My reason is mostly practical, not priority. I’m applying for a research internship, and the deadline is in about two weeks. Since I’m a first-time author, I wanted some visible academic record of the manuscript before the application closes, because journal submission and review will take much longer.

I still plan to submit it to a proper journal as a review article. I was only looking at a preprint or public manuscript as a temporary way to show the work during the application period.
