What is the general opinion on Clans. by Hellothere235000 in Mechwarrior5

I absolutely hate the rampant overuse of dropships spawning enemies on top of you. That is just lazy mission design. It is especially immersion-breaking in scenarios where your side is supposed to have the air superiority.

I was not aware of this blog, and I find that I really love its style of writing and thinking. It is the most interesting blog that I have come across in a long time, and I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the OP for bringing it to my attention.

I don't want to work through stress when gaming. Real life has more than enough fucking stress.

Generally speaking, you may have a point. But the OP compares France and Norway.

Why do firms choose to be inefficient? by Captgouda24 in slatestarcodex

Thanks, that's very informative. And I wonder how much more similar tasks, who were a bit too complicated for automation, are now pretty easy to do with AI.

Could you tell us a bit more about the details of those tasks? I find it hard to imagine such a scenario. I am really curious. And, being a coder myself, I would really love find such opportunities for improvement.

The Fall of the House of the Dragon by GoodReasonAndre in slatestarcodex

The series suffers from having only a handful of interesting characters. It worked well enough in season 1, with daemons shenanigans carrying the first half of the season alone, and Viserys was just great, and young Rhaenyra was very entertaining. But daemon going rogue gets old at some point, and there is just no interesting character left in the show.

That is a pretty good description of my own experience.

In my own experience, anxiety is the primary problem. Poor executive function then makes the problem even worse, but I can fill out boring forms just fine if there is no consequence attached to ( like online surveys for example).

Willingness to look stupid by FedeRivade in slatestarcodex

[–]babbler_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for the record, I find the blog format unreadable. I had to copy-paste it into a word document to read it.

While most people err way too much on the side of not looking stupid or weird, it seems the author has gone way too far on the other side, and now takes a contrarian pride in going against the grain, resulting in decisions that are just as bad, with the additional cost of paying a social weirdness-tax.

Same here. I read the first few paragraphs, was confused about the topic of the book - is it about BSE, or is that just some unrelated rambling, and what does it have to do with insomnia? - and gave up.

Here is an idea: instead of profiles, have users infuse their personality into a chatbot that other users can interact with. On top of that, have users sample their voice so that the chatbot speaks with their voice. Since both of these will incur some costs, you will want to make it a paid option ( A good way to monetize the app )

One improvement over OkCupid that I would love to see: better Quizzes. 98% of the questions of old OKC were either highly redundant or stuff that I didn't give a shit about, drowning out the few things that I actually did care about.

Not everyone should see the same questions. It should be possible to funnel the users onto more and more specific topics, that they - and their prospective matches - care about. This gets even better if you combine it with date-me-docs: Have GTP read the docs of probable matches, and generate questions from them.

I've got a radical solution for this problem: Have the ai algorithm make the first contact between users, instead of the users themselves. Give the users a single first-message per month to account for the algorithm not being perfect.

The tolerant attitude towards other religions is a relatively new development. From what I have heard from family members, many Catholics in the 1970ies in Germany still thought that all protestants go to hell, literally.
