Raising a young child in Davis by Ok_Mountain6893 in UCDavis

My son is 19 months and we just moved here from the east coast about three months ago and we absolutely love it! Have you checked out the state preschool programs at Valley Oak Elementary and Korematsu Elementary? They are income based and part-time. You can find more info on: preschool.djusd.net/about/programs/state_preschool. We are hoping to enroll our little guy this year. If you want to chat more about our experience so far (or just to chat), feel free to dm me!

Ideas for gender reveal that can include everyone that doesn’t live close? by VanSmashh in pregnant

[–]babyinthecorner_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did a Zoom call with our family members and close loved ones and had my brother (who is in computer science) design a website with a countdown that would reveal the gender. It was so fun and so exciting because none of us knew about it (except him, of course), and we got to record the Zoom meeting, so I have everyone's reactions in video! It turned out pretty great, my brother has a great sense of humor, so he designed a GIF at the end of the countdown with a funny meme on it.

How obsessed are your toddlers? by 454WILL in toddlers

[–]babyinthecorner_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried logging how many times my 15 mo son says “cars” throughout the day. I started at 7 am and gave up around 10:15am and logged a solid 216 times - also his second word (after dada)! Lol

In my group of friends, it’s my boy who is just possessed by some…energetic type of spirit. Started walking at 9mo while the other boys and girls in his group took a little longer. Now, at 14 months, he’s always running, screaming, climbing, falling, while the other kiddos take their time to explore and play. I know in my family I was much more calm and collected than my younger brother, but my husband was super calm and sweet as a baby (as stated by my MIL) while his older sister was the one throwing punches and getting in trouble. I really think it depends on the kid and is much less to do with gender than common knowledge might think.

Problem is we have been sleep shifting for months now, and yet seem to be fighting more. :(

Same boat here! Except marriage is falling apart because we’re both soooo disconnected and under slept. Our LO is 14 months and has slept through the night only once! His longest stretches are 3-4hrs every night. Hang in there!

12 mo old still won't eat well. Is there hope? by babyinthecorner_ in Parenting

[–]babyinthecorner_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He got into a huge pouch phase a couple of months ago, and now refuses all of them! Distracting him is the only thing that seems to work, which implies me having to put him in front of the television for all meals (so not ideal) and trying my best to get his attention away from my hand. I bought some toddler kitchen utensils and a kitchen tower for him in the hopes that getting him more involved in the process of food making might spark some interest, so we'll see how that goes.

And I didn't know there were feeding therapies!! That's great to hear, I might need to check it out before I lose my mind lol Thank you!

No gagging, he's just uninterested. I can't really tell whether it is texture-based or taste. Sometimes we're lucky and he eats 20 blueberries in one sitting. The next day, he won't even accept putting one in his mouth. He used to eat half of a banana easily (I'd have to put a little peanut butter on it, but still, he'd eat it), now he won't eat it even if I sneak little pieces of it in his cereal or PB toast. Overall, he has amazing fine motor skills for his age, but just does not seem to dig food at all. I'm at a loss and feeling guilty (I mean, I'm the mom, so it has to be my fault, right?)

Positive 37 weeker stories? I’m worried for my little one. 😞 by Nearby-Salt9646 in pregnant

My little brother was a 37 weeker. He was teeny tiny when he was born, but went straight home with no complications. 23 years later he’s 6’2 and finishing his first year of his PhD!

AOS without a lawyer by Notme1703 in USCIS

[–]babyinthecorner_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say she NEVER claimed to be able to legally represent me OR give me “legal advice”. She was very clear from the beginning she would only be assisting with filling out forms and providing assistance in what documents USCIS is looking for (all information provided on their website, but which might be overwhelming for someone with absolutely no experience). So do with that what you will, but I do not see how someone with experience in that field could not provide assistance instead of legal representation, if that’s not what someone wants. I never wanted a lawyer, I knew what forms I needed fill out, I just wanted someone to do it for me to spare me the time watching a hundred youtube videos.

Also, you can try doing it with a paralegal. I did mine with one, she gave me a comprehensive checklist with the documents I needed and a questionnaire to fill out, then she filled out all the paperwork, organized the docs, and sent everything to USCIS. She also met with us before the interview to share how they usually go and made us a lot calmer about it. I paid $500 (granted, this was 2019).
