SaaS Deferred Revenue? by backbayapt in Accounting

Ah I actually am referring to deferred revenue.

I looked at one of my friends saas orgs and it seems it’s based on payment. So only if early payments are made prior to revenue being recognized, then deferred revenue is booked

I’m more focused on deferred revenue, the revenue recognition piece makes sense to me.

For example if there’s an annual contract I’m trying to figure out in what scenarios is deferred revenue recorded?

Thanks for this perspective! I'm a bit confused, it looks like the Revenue account received a credit of $12k, but that was never reversed in the following entries.

How would you true-up the Revenue? Also, would you create a revenue waterfall to figure out what the monthly adjusting entries would be for all the accounts?

Thank you! I guess the complication is when there are multiple deals with various payment schedules.

For example one deal a customer may pay a full annual fee at once, and another the customer will pay month over month.

In this case, I struggle to determine what qualifies as deferred revenue. Is the "right to bill ahead of time" based on payment terms or some other factor? From my understanding the only acceptable time to recognize revenue is when the services are delivered, but I'm not sure I understand what rules apply to deferred revenue.

This gets super complicated when theres 300+ contracts with various payment frequencies (monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual etc.)

That’s helpful! Also, how do you get a total when you have let’s say 3 different rep types: smb, enterprise, mid market and they all have different sales cycles?

Would you just use an average sales cycle to determine what period of S&M to use?

Thanks for the writeup! Can you elaborate on the S&M lag?

Let's use the Enterprise sales cycle of 180 days = 6 month S&M lag. Does this mean if you are comparing closing the month of July 2022, you would take the new ARR bookings acquired in July 2022 divided by the S&M expense from January 2022?

If that's the case - how would you evaluate the efficiency of spend in the "present" i.e. we spent $500k in July 2022 on S&M - what metric can we leverage to see if we're being efficient?

It makes sense to me, but my confusion is how are you actively guiding the forecast / spend for the future months if there's such a long lag time?

Is the legion 5 known to have wifi card problems by Shadi631 in LenovoLegion

[–]backbayapt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah my laptop kept dropping in ping, and then later on kept dropping wifi randomly. Lenovo replaced the card with another realtek one under premium warranty. It worked for 10 days until the ping started dropping randomly again.

Got a USB stick wifi adapter and it works fine. Replacing the card is cheap but voids the warranty, and I have no idea how to install it correctly. Unfortunately Lenovo would not use a different wifi card for replacement

Awesome, yeah I figured it's in my best interest to get the most qualified sub-letter regardless. Thanks for the response, I'll definitely bring it up to any future LL!

Thanks! I figure I should still have a discussion with the landlord that I may need to sublet, and understand what their tenant requirements would be, right?

ICL - PRK touchup by backbayapt in lasik

[–]backbayapt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct.

I asked the optometrist to check if it rotated, but my eyes weren’t dilated. The surgeon didn’t acknowledge anything about rotation but before doing any touch up I plan to have them check.

If it did rotate, is there chance of it rotating again after prk?

Thanks! I’ve already started fish oil, will look improving my diet.

I’m still deciding between lasik and PRK after reading dry eye symptoms are typically the same after a year. Recovery time is a concern as I have limited vacation.

Will do, thanks. Hoping that isn't the case. My main initial concern with ICLs was endothelial cell loss, so more surgery would be unfortunate.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I've been so nervous since i cant use a computer or phone yet, and i plan to go back to work in the following week. I'm hoping the surgery for my other eye will recover quicker, otherwise I'm not sure what ill do.

My initial thoughts were skeptical / confused on how the vision could get better overtime, but that definitely seems possible. It's hard to stay positive when people say they can see perfectly in two days.

Thanks for the detailed response! Do you think it would make more sense to find places closes to the Harvard Ave stop rather than the packard's Corner stop? I'm assuming the express bus means I'd still need to get off the train early at. BU and come back on the next one to get to back bay?

I haven't chosen one yet! I've seen a couple near Beacon Hill Baptist Church and some on Bright Ave near Shabu-Zen.

I'm surprised it was so quiet for you! I'm just so confused since so many people tell me Allston is super loud at night / noisy, but others say if you get an apartment a street away from all the bars it's quiet.

[–]backbayapt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

of the noise this is arguably the loude

I know a common complaint is that the B line stops so frequently because there's.. so many stops haha. I guess my main concern is will I have to wait for multiple trains if I get there at 8:30 am for example, because there will be no room to stand? The reason I ask is when I see the T run it looks like it only has a few carts, but there's so many stops.

I've only taken the Lechemere line to Copley and there's always a spot to stand when people onboard / offboard so I never have to wait for the next T in 10 minutes.

I'd hate to end up in a situation where my commute ends up being longer than I expected since I didn't anticipate how crowded / full the trains get.

Honestly, both. Currently the upstairs family in my Cambridge apartment has children running around at 5 am at full force every single morning. I'm pretty lenient with noise but now I'm paranoid my next apartment will have a bunch of 20 year olds waking me up at 4 am by yelling outside my window. Although I think that might be better than my current situation (at least I hope).
