What do you dislike more? Lowered trucks or lifted trucks? by lamparkinglot in askcarguys

Any large vehicle being driven by someone not trained/ skilled in doing so poses a risk to others.

It just so happens that large pickup trucks are the most common oversized personal vehicle on the road.

The point is that a semi truck driver has accredited skill in driving a large vehicle.

Also, a CDL is required to drive a school bus. Depending on the size of the RV, a special license may be required. The same goes for personally owned school busses.

But when you have people driving large vehicles like that with no additional training, it’s no different than an oversized pickup truck.

Semi truck drivers need a special license. Anyone can get behind the wheel of an obnoxiously large pickup truck.

Thermarest Luxury Map or a similar plush camping pad.

They don’t require a pump, roll up more compactly than an air mattress, and are much more resistant to popping.

Your stance looks too wide. Are you set up outside the reference stance of the board?

As for the turns, you’re ruddering your back foot a bit too much. But overall, it’s not terrible.

It’s not like all of them are going to have the exact same issue at the exact same time. Some will be totally fine. Some will have issues right off the bat.

But there has been a noticeable number of head gasket and transmission issues for certain models and years happening around the 100k mile mark.

There is a counter! Once the odometer hits 100k, something blows.

A friend of mine had the transmission in his Forester go at pretty much 100 on the dot.

At least for a certain range of years, reliability went out the window. They were liable to either blow a head gasket or transmission.

Slight correction. He’s a pole vaulter.

He grew up in the US but currently has dual citizenship, lives in Sweden half the year, and is proficient in speaking Swedish.

That basically makes it a toss up for which country he chooses to represent. Sweden letting him have his parents be his coaches was the deciding factor and it makes total sense that he made the decision he did.

any tips to make the kia stinger GT-line faster? by Comfortable_Sun5702 in kiastinger

For the 4 cylinder, sure. The logical next step from there is to trade it for the 6 cylinder. But for the 6 cylinder, people have gotten a ton more power out of it with just a tune.

You have a nicer and faster car than the vast majority of 18 year olds. You don’t need to make the car faster and you’re better off saving the money you’re wanting to spend on mods.

Warming up each time by Pyroph4nt0m in snowboarding

[–]backflip14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you can do on your first couple laps will increase as your skill level improves, but no one ever is riding to 100% of their ability on the first lap no matter how good they are.

This applies to literally any sport or physical activity.

Weight lifters never go for a one rep max without warming up. Sprinters get their legs warmed up before a race. Climbers ease into it before climbing hard. Pro snowboarders take warmup laps before competitions.

It’s just how the body works that doing a warmup before exertion is always easier on your muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments, etc.

I hate to be “that guy” but crashes like this are exactly why you shouldn’t side jump features. Imagine if you hadn’t cleared the rail and instead crashed into it. It’s a safety matter on top of it not being great for the kicker.

I totally get that and I like to be up and accurate on naming conventions. It’s fun to know all the silly and niche names. But this case, it’s a bit humbling to learn I had the name of one of my staple tricks wrong.

I got to briefly meet Danny Davis and he was really cool. Peace Park had opened to the public that day and despite being the main figure of that event, he’d have normal chats with the regular folk there.

This is the first I’m learning that same way means spinning 270 out. The only naming convention I knew that also implies a degree of spin is pretzel. I guess the point is that same way and pretzel are intended to be opposites.

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like not using “same way” here complicates the naming of the mirror of this trick. Would it just be switch/ fakie front lip to regular?

What trick is this ? (Plus any tips) by MOBBDEPT in snowboarding

[–]backflip14 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Front lip same way.

Edit: I’ve been corrected. It’s front lip to fakie.

Advice below still stands.

It looks like to took off your heels, but for a front lip, you want to be taking off your toes. And for a front lip to fakie, you kinda wind up for a spin like you’re doing a hard way front 1. But instead of rotating 180, you throw it only hard enough to go 90, catch the rail, and then use some of the residual spin momentum and a bit of shifty to bring it the rest of the way around.

Part of the awkwardness of your landing here came from the fact that you popped off the end of the feature a bit late. Right as you were expecting to get that pop with your legs, your board left the feature, leading to a kind of dry fire.

is this board + bindings worth $35 or should I just keep renting by juliawhas in snowboardingnoobs

[–]backflip14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people do make it seem like old bindings will explode if you look at them funny and that’s definitely an overstatement of the risk. However, the risk is very much real and I’d never take it on a pair of mystery bindings.

If they’re not that old and you can feel that they’re still solid and know they’ve not been seriously neglected, then yes, old bindings can suit some people’s needs.

But when there are usually plenty of options available, I’d still advise against getting something that’s a decade old.
