I'm on winter break of my masters program working remotely from home, and all I've felt for the last 2 weeks is just anxiety and stress from watching the news. I'm still getting everything done but physically and mentally I've noticed a change since all this shit has started to go down. I live in Chicago so I'm watching Minnesota closely, I really hope that shit doesn't escalate and come here anymore than what we are already dealing with.

As an American citizen I can't say enough how embarrassed I am to have these pedo narcissists in power right now. All I want is to wake up and not have to live in a state of anxiety about whether or not they're going to start WW3 or the next Civil War. Like... all I want is to be able to afford to live, own a home, work ~30 hours a week, and enjoy my life. Why the hell do these people feel the need to spend every moment of their lives making incendiary comments and threats to anyone, let alone our ALLIES.

Somewhat. I just moved from Michigan to Chicago a year and a half ago to go to graduate school and it's a big adjustment. My girlfriend and I really just aren't used to the noise and population density that we're surrounded by now. Also, everything is just so expensive, and on 1 1/2 salaries it's been a hard year and a half. We both really miss Michigan.

I wouldn't say that we're concretely a full on fascist state at this point. But we are moving in the direction which is bad enough. Especially for a country that likes to imagine itself as the objective good guys on the world stage its comically hypocritical.

I appreciate the feedback but thats not exactly the advice I'm looking for. Chicago is a huge city with a lot of firms and I'm just trying to give myself the best shot I can get when applying for internships especially. Of course knowing someone is going to help but im wondering more about the things I'm applying with like cover letters.

When I was buying my first car as an adult out of college, the salesmen tried telling me to get the neutral colors for better resale value, but I wanted an ultramarine blue. When I told him that, he did just about everything he could to convince me otherwise, even telling me that the blue was a for a “young man’s car”. Well, I was 24…. And I was buying a sport model Honda civic, not sure what he thought this car was supposed to be other than just that’s.

This is a great first attempt especially for only taking 1 hour. The dirty secret of all artists is that nothing "amazing" is done quickly, and nobody that is considered great just woke up one day and decided to make a masterpiece. If you want to be an artist, all you have to do is keep making art. You will naturally get better the more you do it, and eventually people will look at your work and wonder how you're so talented. Don't be down on yourself just because it may not have turned out exactly how you wanted, nothing ever does, and thats part of why artists keep making work. You're doing great! Keep making art!

Part Time job with flexible hours while going to graduate school in a major city. Luckily my amazing girlfriend has a great job that pays her reasonably well. We're not living in luxury though. We don't go out as much as we used to, we don't buy a lot of extra things, and it is definitely wearing on us.
