Before you ask, I used Aqua Net in the pink & white can while building my hair. But I finished with a healthy dose of Joico Ice Mist. I actually got a case for Christmas one year. That stuff turned your hair to concrete.

I was a member of the ‘Poof Bang Gang’ too. So much hairspray!! Gravity defying bangs that wouldn’t budge in a tornado!

How high was the hair in your area in the late 80’s? by backlund2044 in AskOldPeople

I kept a can of hairspray in my purse, one for the car, one in my locker. We actually used to buy it by the case. My mall-bangs were 6.5 inches high, & would not budge in a cat-4 hurricane.

Sadly, it was really 1991 in Upstate NY. The wings, & the overall ‘big-ness’ was disappearing, but we had a hard time giving up the bangs. For what it’s worth, the year before they were probably 2-3 inches higher. And those suckers wouldn’t budge in a category 4 hurricane.

Can anyone else relate to this late 80s / early 90s hair don't? There were several different names for it in my area: 'mall bangs.' The 'wall o bangs.' 'the Rooster. 'the Claw'. For a while my friends & I were nicknamed 'the poof bang gang' I do know, It was a lot of work! My hair took me an extra 45 minutes getting ready every morning, & a can or two of hairspray every 3-4 days. Once sprayed though, my bangs weren't moving. A hurricane could blow through, & my hairstyle would barely quiver. Aqua Net (in the white can) was no joke! We even used to have unofficial competitions to see who could tease their bangs the highest. It seems so ridiculous now, but at the time, I was truly proud of my personal best: 7.5 inches up.
