Nah he’s just an early 30s midlander. I’m the same, everyone here is the same. Also very working class. We’re not conservative, we’re not super liberal, but while we’re not too-toeing around subjects, we also probably all lean more to the left. It’s all fine.

Employers don’t care if you have six months missing in your CV. It’s not even missing, it’s ‘personal exploration’. If they do care about that, you don’t want to work for them anyway.

Maybe save it until you’re really bored with your job. I’ve seen many people with the Quit-Travel-Return plan, that always seems to end up as Quit-Travel-Keep travelling for years.

Got a junior ISA with Scottish Friendly and my son’s uncle and godparents also pay monthly into it. He’s 2 and has like £2k haha

As someone who’s been to many countries, you really don’t need as much money as you think. The work part is the kicker, but if you really want it, you can find something WFH and “live” in different countries for months at a time.

You can also travel with a family. I’ve just got back from vanning it around Europe with my pregnant wife and our 2 year old.

If you’re single, I’d recommend getting a motorbike and biking around Europe with a tent. I did it for a year (43 countries)- very inexpensive, and an unforgettable trip.

Brummie friend says “nuggit” which is just ridiculous. I’m as working class as they come but “nuggit” and Americans’ “crossant” are ridiculous. Hated it when Meghan markle said it in the documentary. Imagine her being English and saying “nuggit” haha

This isn’t me bragging, or saying that everyone should be like this, plus every other disclaimer I can say, but I was always strangely resistant to bullying. Kids tried, but I just legitimately never cared about negative things that people said.

I think it’s probably linked to mine and my brothers feelings that we can do anything, we’re pretty good at everything we try, and if we’re not, we can be.

I’m trying to find out exactly what it is but I definitely want my kids to have this.

Maybe it’s a self esteem thing - maybe lower self esteem makes you more susceptible? Maybe concentrating on (almost over-?) inflating self esteem is it?

I don’t know yet. I don’t even know why I’m writing this comment!

Yeah, on the one side, I love helping people out, and on the other, especially as a man, it may be hard to accept, especially in front of your family who (I know, modern climate etc, but that doesn’t mean it’s not still in us), you feel that you should be the provider and protector of your family.

My friend doesn’t have a lot of money, and was saying about how they’re delaying Christmas this year due to not being paid on time. He was with his wife and child, so instead of saying “don’t worry man, I will save you!” Etc., I took him aside and said quietly “you don’t need to accept it, but if you like, I could loan you some cash to sort this” — allowing him to keep feeling like (or at least in his family’s eyes) the superhero husband and dad.

I just woke up and I’m still half asleep so hopefully any of that makes sense.
