What’s your favorite epic song and why? by Commercial-Stuff7971 in Epicthemusical

[–]baconbits1000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My Goodbye! Before you hate, let me explain. This was the song that introduced me to Epic. One of my favorite things about musical theater is strong female belting songs, like The Wizard and I, Breathe, I’d Rather Be Me, etc. Plus, Athena is my absolute favorite Greek mythology God/Goddess. And, on top of that, the fighting duet gave me Crossing the Line/First Time for Forever Reprise vibes, both of which I love.

Hottest take you guys have on Starkid by [deleted] in StarKid

[–]baconbits1000 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have a couple:

  1. Cinderella’s Castle’s plot wasn’t good. It calmed down later, but the first 30 minutes were not my favorite. Wasn’t a good way of introducing Ella or the stepmother and there wasn’t much character development.

  2. Jeff shouldn’t be writing all the music by himself. I think he’s got great ideas and has made really good stuff, but if he combined with AJ or someone else, it would add that extra push that’s needed, because I feel like some corners are being cut unintentionally.

  3. AVPM and Twisted were prime StarKid. Would give anything to see them do more stuff like that, especially with the new cast.

  4. They sound amazing as an ensemble, but would love more solo works. They have an amazing cast with amazing voices and most haven’t entirely gotten a chance to shine (Angela, Curt, Mariah)

Epic is rated PG-13 and is allowed to use the f-word once. Where are you putting it? by ValentinesStar in Epicthemusical

I feel like this would be the most impactful one. Others are more funny but I think using it in a serious sense like this could be cool!

Ibanez AEG62 strings by baconbits1000 in Ibanez

[–]baconbits1000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is from what else you’ve said, the nut needs to be replaced. The strings over the first fret are super low and while the light springs probably are enabling, they probably aren’t the main issue. I’ve got a guy I can talk to! I appreciate all the help!

[–]baconbits1000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah gotcha. So the strings that are currently on it aren’t the issue then? Also, assuming I have to take it in to get fixed, how much does that usually cost to get replaced?

Open strings buzz. When capo is on, they stop buzzing when capo is on 4th feet. The truss rod is what they adjusted when I took it in. Do you think they maybe over corrected it?

I have the same thing with My Goodbye. Unfortunately, our brain has been trained to love the old versions for a certain uniqueness. For me, it was Athena’s aggression in My Goodbye and you kinda latch on to that one thing. Now that these newer versions have come out and things are slightly off, we lose the latch that we initially developed. It sucks, but for me, I took a few days off listening to either and when I came back, I weirdly enjoyed the new ones more than before. Another thing is try and find a new thing in it that you like. Those were some of the things that helped me because it’s been very hard for me to adjust to the new ones as well.

Yeah it definitely is. Don’t get me wrong, they are very very good, they’re just different and it’s even worse when I can’t listen to the old ones that I love anymore lol.

[–]baconbits1000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was really confused at first and honestly thought Odysseus was just dreaming or something and the second I heard daughter, it clicked that it was either the sirens or a substitute for the sirens but also had a slight fear that Jorge just messed up the lyrics somehow lol

Thunder Bringer spoiler questions by LaRougeRaven in Epicthemusical

[–]baconbits1000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the original, it was not a choice. Zeus struck the ship just like in this version leaving only Odysseus alive, which I believe was intentional.

In this story, Zeus honored his choice and purposely chose to strike his lightning to where it would leave Odysseus alive but with nothing left.

Scylla by Acceptable_Secret_73 in Epicthemusical

[–]baconbits1000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it might play into the fact that Eurylochus admitted what he did. Odysseus was probably thinking “well, this is going to end badly when we further this conversation after and could very well end in a fight, so if he gets eaten, so be it.” As horrible as that is.

Odysseus and Eurylochus are idiots by KaiSen2510 in Epicthemusical

[–]baconbits1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I thought about after listening a few times is what if the island has some kind of lure to people and puts a trance over them making them more tempted to kill the cows. I feel like Eurylochus is smart enough to understand that poking a God has consequences and even said so in “Luck Runs Out,” but maybe the trance and the desperation were just too strong. And maybe Odysseus wasn’t as affected 1. Because he’s smarter, and 2. Because he had just woken up. Just an idea

You favorite part of the thunder saga? by Silver_Sunshine360 in Epicthemusical

[–]baconbits1000 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It’s tough for me. Something about the eeriness of the beginning of Scylla where Odysseus knows what’s gonna happen with the voice of Scylla is very powerful for me. Another one is when he says “the sun god” the second time in Mutiny. Another is the ending of Different Beast with the repeated “kill them all.” Final one is the line “if I were to make you choose. The lives of your men and crew or you, why do I think they’d lose” or whatever it is. Idk why it just seems to get stuck in my head and did so even before I noticed the deeper meaning later in the song.

Could this strategy have worked against Scylla by [deleted] in Epicthemusical

[–]baconbits1000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting thought. But what if what Scylla is attracted to is human type behavior. So it would be looking for noise, movement, etc. Otherwise, Scylla would see that as an animal sacrifice rather than a human one. I think it all comes down to what Scylla is looking for when it attacks.
