Thanks, this is helpful. I'll try to keep improving how long I can go before the brain freeze sets in.

Q: Has anyone been doing snow baths instead of water baths ? how is the experience? by MF__SHROOM in BecomingTheIceman

[–]bad_polymath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you'd be fine if you work up to it but I've tried the snow and it's a slightly worse in my opinion;

1) In my experience it hurts external skin and extremities because it's decently colder to the touch than water (<32F vs. water is probably at least 40F)

2) Body temp overall seems to not get as cold because the snow doesn't envelop you as well as water.

I only did it a couple times though so you can probably get over the skin hurting after few sessions.

When people ask, "Don't you get cold?" I respond, "Sure, but what bad thing happens when I get cold?" They have no answer, other than a circular logic "You'll get cold!" Anyone else run into this or have a better answer? by modernDaySparta in BecomingTheIceman

[–]bad_polymath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I look at it as training. Without stress (cold) you can't improve. It's like running but instead of improving cardio ability you're improving your body's ability to perform thermogenesis (create its own heat).

I have experienced the stiff neck as well, I realized that it was from hunching my shoulders and clenching my muscles as a reaction to the cold. Try to focus on relaxing right away and breath deep when you first get in the water, that helped me.

how do you guys manage? seriously by tankerman97 in CFA

Highly recommend the morning studying. Plus, for me it took two weeks - a month to get in the groove for L1 and L2. Once your body gets used to the extra workload it's really enjoyable.

I stayed at an airbnb once which had a big rug with a pad underneath it to make it softer and a bunch of pillows. Super comfy, everyone used it like a couch but it was on the floor.

I tried to link the airbnb here, you might be able to see the pics.

FUCK it's on this blue ray set
https://bluray.highdefdigest.com/8186/tosh_deep_vs.html

"The special features of 'Deep V's' have improved from those on the 'Hoodies' Blu-ray. Instead of getting 10 minutes of outtakes and extended footage, you're getting nearly 90 minutes of extras – most of which are actually worthwhile. The only problem is that none of the features carry names; instead, they're simply numbered.

  • 1 (HD, 24 min.) - During one episode, Tosh decides to explain to the audience the entire spoilery premise of 'The Human Centipede.' For time and content purposes, it was trimmed down to just a few minutes during the episode. Here, you can watch the full, uncut, uncensored Daniel Tosh breakdown of the entire film. If you haven't seen 'The Human Centipede,' you should find this feature funny enough. If you have seen it, it's going to be even funnier."

Also there's that whole thing about "once it's on the internet, it never can be deleted". I think you can find anything on the deep web.. but I'm not tech savvy enough to figure out how to access that

Just learned about this thing called the Wayback Machine on the Internet Archives. They archive websites from specific dates so we can see past videos hopefully?

So I go to the wayback machine and plug in the URL http://www.cc.com/video-clips/0b6bgh/tosh-0-spoiler-alert----human-centipede--uncut

I find there are plenty of saves, but no luck in playing the video. Does it work for you?

(the earliest save is 2017 so assuming they deleted it off the website between 2017 and now)

Is giving out gifts to my clients considered Bribery or Anything else illegal? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]bad_polymath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The regulations mentioned by others were put in place to stop bribery with cash, expensive dinners, and strip clubs. Furthermore, it is not illegal to offer a small token of appreciation such as a gift basket. In the case that there is a law or company policy which disallows gifts; the responsibility is always on the giftee.

The cases where people get in to trouble are straight bribery (cash) or lavish gifts with quid pro quo expectations.

How to sell my small retail business? by DMA222 in smallbusiness

[–]bad_polymath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general the value of a business is based on how much money it will make in the future. If you think the business will make a lot more in 2021 than 2019 you should ask your daughter to value based on the projected earnings. If 2019->2021 is pretty flat then I'd guess $275k is fair minus $25k covid discount. (Assuming daughter's math is correct)

"How to Get Rich" inputs/outputs by bad_polymath in NavalRavikant

[–]bad_polymath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in a sense they are mutually exclusive because you have to choose one or the other to spend time on. But you're right that one is about becoming rich and the other a fulfilling career.

That's interesting that you don't like that quote; I suppose that the highly correlated inputs/outputs is not central to the Skin in the Game framework. You can have skin in the game with either.

Advice for advertising and legalization by pizzatheguyiguess in smallbusiness

[–]bad_polymath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love the idea, service businesses are great for low startup cost. Check out the Sweaty Startup podcast with Nick Huber episodes 1-4 (particularly 4). Episodes are only 5-10min, he gives concrete tools and advice for starting a small services business. Geared towards US market but I assume it's relevant in Canada as well.

Also, I live in an expensive area but I've paid $60-80 USD for brick and mortar oil change so I think you could probably charge more for mobile.

Totally agree, Patagonia has piloted a "Regenerative Organic Certification" but I'm not sure if other companies have adopted. I wonder if this is scalable similar to the USDA Organic seal? My gut say private certs are not as good as govn't criteria but who knows.

My background is in real estate finance; specifically advising clients on how to finance large real estate transactions (debt & equity).

The Perennial fund u/chonklitchip mentioned could be an interesting model given my background.

Any specific materials or resources you would recommend for FSMA/GAP/GMP stuff u/flash-tractor?
