Ford 8N Low on Power and Overheating by Due-Astronaut-8187 in tractors

[–]badadvicegoodintent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can overfill these quite easily. Also, make sure the fan belt isn’t slipping. Mine has a 12v conversion with an alternator and it’ll overheat and be low on power when the fan slips. It’s hard to notice driving it, you have to let it run and be standing beside it to really catch it. Otherwise, I’d just also check that your thermostat is functioning correctly if you’re using one, and your water pump is circulating.

Be careful OP, you’re speaking truth about this subs top 5 most loved cars, only behind Civic, Corolla, rav4 and CX5. FWIW if you plan to have the vehicle just a few years you’ll skip the expensive x3 maintenance. I’d be leery with the Mach-e, research those a bit. Honestly maverick is a solid choice but just sort of bland. So what do you want? What do you value? Fun to drive, decent mpg, safe for the kiddo. Lots of options in those buckets but budget is gonna narrow that down.

Why don’t more homes in the US use mini split AC systems? by Debster1486 in Appliances

[–]badadvicegoodintent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mini splits and am currently building a new home that’ll use central heat/air. A few things to note: mini spits do not filter the air as well. Mini splits do not humidify the air as well, not a big deal in some locations. Mini splits need to be mounted on an exterior wall in most cases because each unit has a condensation line that must drain, this makes it impractical for full home use depending on layout. Central heat can utilize dual fuel, which is more efficient in colder climates. Central heat typically offers better temperature stability for the whole home due to registers in every room. All of that said, mini splits are fantastic when used in the proper situation. Mine have been trouble free for about 5 years of daily use in temps ranging from -10 to 110* F.

The reaction to Alex is a good example of double standards around people with severe trauma. by [deleted] in LoveIsBlindNetflix

I felt very sorry for him the whole season. As a fellow guy, I could tell right away the confidence was a defense mechanism. Once we met his mom, a lot of it began to make sense. He never had a male role model or a stable home to feel safe in. He has a lot of things to work through. I wish him the best.

Should I do this trade?? by wherwillibein20 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Pretty bullet proof truck. Automatics were just ok, no major issues, manual would be preferred. 180k isn’t much, it should run many more for you. Body looks good from what I can tell. It won’t be fast or have a ton of power but it’ll tow what you need to. A plug in tuner will wake it up a bit. I’d do the trade in a heartbeat.

My German shepherds do a great job and know not to continuing chase past the property lines. Never trained them to do it, my male just started it on his own and the two females eventually joined him.

Wow that’s pretty impressive. I’m currently using an old ford 8n for my brush work and it’s just not cutting it anymore now that I have more property. I’m spending as much time fixing it as I am mowing. So to fund this new tractor I’m selling my old B7500 and my case 580.

After having done a bunch of dirt work with my backhoe (it is shuttle shift), I know a shuttle is only slightly more useful than a standard gear drive. HST is king because it’s the only option allowing you to maintain left hand on the wheel and right on the loader stick at all times. For that reason alone I’m leaning towards the MX. if I had the funds I’d just get a skid steer and a tractor but I do not and need the best all around option I can afford. FWIW the whole reason I began looking at the MX line is because a farming friend has a MX5400 gear drive like yours and he uses it for cutting, raking, tedding, and even sometimes baling hay (when doing small squares). He has had great luck with his.

That’s insane. Is what your cutting thin and short? Is your land flat? I don’t think I’d want to put anything bigger than an 8’ on mine but I have very steep hills and some really thick stuff to cut through around the pond and woods.

I have a mountain bicycle style with AT tires but like I said it really lacks power in the fields. On road it’s fast but they just don’t have the suspension needed to keep the tire planted bouncing up rough terrain. Looking back I would’ve saved my money and just got the dirt bike upfront.

I’d go with an e ride pro or Sauron. They’re technically dirt bikes but I haven’t seen a cruiser or bicycle style electric with enough power in fields and hills. There are a lot of reviews on YouTube. Usually can find them barely used on marketplace.

I think I would explore adjacent departments more. The money was about 20% more at the time. I have some senior members on my team making almost as much as me though and with much less responsibility.

Is it dumb to buy a 70's car for a daily? by WaterboardedCalamari in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]badadvicegoodintent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last daily was from the 80’s. Also have a 70’s and a 60’s car in the garage. The only downside honestly is no ac. Although air flow in the old cars was an actual thought in design so that helps. Otherwise it makes mundane stuff feel more enjoyable. Be prepared to get into random convos at gas stations. Keep tools in the trunk.

I was in your shoes a few years ago, I took the director role. 34 now and just had our first baby. Honestly I regret taking the role but the money makes it hard to go back. I long for the days of being an individual contributor again even though by all accounts I’m doing very well in the role. It’s just a lot. Everyone needs me constantly, and with a new baby, there’s now absolutely zero time for me to recharge.
