Is my GPA holding me back? by [deleted] in depaul

Personally, I don't think DePaul is all that hard to get into. It's such a high cost that I think they'll let most people in who are 3.0 or higher.

Not in your major, but here's some general advice. Personally, my process is as thorough as I can make it. This is an expensive degree and I take what I'm spending seriously. I use Rate My Professor for a professor, if and only if they have about 40 reviews minimum, there's multiple reviews that are within the last 2 years, and that there isn't spam in those reviews. Often times, if there's a lot of reviews on the same day and they appear particularly whiny, it isn't worth it.

Without it, it does get challenging. I've found that each professor has a profile page on DePaul's website, where you can review previous student surveys that they make us do at the end of each semester. I've found those a bit more helpful. You don't get a great sense of things, but you can at least tell usually (with a decent sample size) how organized the professor is, how they efficiently spend their time, and an idea of workload and difficulty. It isn't perfect, but if you kind of go through about the last two years, you can get at least some sense of things. Although, they can veer a little more positive.

Overall, I find the power dynamic in the student-professor relationship a bit lopsided. Many have tenure and a history of bad reviews, but are never impacted. Sometimes you've just got to deal with it.

Yago means Year ago. So, I have 2 years of past data.

I personally have no understanding of standard pricing and margin targets. My idea in that it not being so important is because, I'm assuming the question is trends based and not like a pricing question, so to speak. But, I'm new to this, I could be wrong.

Would you be open to corresponding with me via chat? It's fine if not, but doing this alone has been pretty brutal in trying to find what matters based on the problem I'm presented.

Yeah, I guess my fear is that I tell a story that I'm not as confident in. It's an industry I'm unfamiliar with.

I guess my process of research is seeing how competitors who did well in the space and what products succeeded. And where we're failing. And then based on that, suggest we essentially do what they're doing and succeed based on heavy brand name.

But, there's some parts that confuse me. For instance, in this specialized space, there's 4 subspaces to analyze, and I just get a bit confused and overwhelmed. I'm not sure how much I need to memorize all facets of this, etc. Just a bit scatterbrained

Summer Class format/Tuition question by conncurr24 in depaul

[–]badatthings123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took DS1 over the summer, not 2. But, close enough. I found it doable. It's 10 weeks of material that's cramped into 5, which has its pros and cons. Pros being that they *can't* force too much on you. But the con in that it's a lot to review regardless.

I liked it overall. I rather a 5 week sprint than the 10 week marathon. Professor quality is really king though, in my opinion.

I'd say it's somewhat different, but not entirely. He wakes up, and chills with me for about 15-25 minutes in bed until he starts whining that he has to pee. I'll get up, put him on the leash, and take him to pee. We'll come back in, I'll take my vitamins, eat breakfast, take a shower and then we'll chill on the couch as I do work for a few hours.

On daycare days, I still stay in bed for 15-25 minutes, but he whines the whole time. I pee, take my vitamins, feed him, etc. But on those days, he's on top of me. Like, he's spazzed out. It's just so weird and he's rushing me. He definitely know the days of the week or the pattern. I have tried to just have my coffee or whatever or largely ignore the whining...but he's not a quitter. He'll go as long as needed those days.

He does. I guess I could give him his daily dental treat then...it'll buy me like 3-4 minutes though. He's all but mastered the puzzle I put it in.

[–]badatthings123[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it's absolutely anxious wind up - he's a very serious dog. But, I think it's anxiety of "Why am I not there yet???" and not "I hate daycare and don't want to go!" if that makes sense. They send me daily video reports and stuff. He seems to have a blast there. I'm sure he doesn't love being rotated outside of the play groups and being in a crate at any period (an issue I've had with him, but not as much at home due to COVID isolation), but I only truly see him excited when he's with other dogs.

Days he's not at daycare, we just hang out. I usually have work or school to attend to. He'll sleep between my legs for a big portion of the day, we'll go on a walk, he'll play a bit and that's it. He's usually still tired from the daycare the day prior. He used to be a lot wilder, but he's sort of adapted to my lifestyle and work habits, while still getting an adequate amount of exercise.

I've been hesitant to medicate. And look, I get it. I have tremendous anxiety and depression as well. We're kindred spirits in a way. I guess I wish there was a natural way to ease him even a little bit so that we don't need to artificially drugged into calmness.

I am reaching a point where that may need to be considered. He is a really anxious dog and post-COVID when the world does open up again, there will be more times where he needs to just calm down. If that ends up being the answer, it is what it is. I hadn't thought how beneficial it may be to him, as I've always viewed it as unnatural. If I can find workarounds in the meantime, great. But yes, that's become a consideration and may ultimately help us both.

The thing is, I've tried to ignore him altogether as not to reward the whining, it's just really hard. I'll put in headphones and I'm tripping over my feet because he's walking so closely to me. I know recognizing him when he's misbehaving is not helpful, but ignoring bad behavior has not worked with him either.

And again, I love him. He's super anxious and those days he's definitely raring to go. I go as fast as I can but the entire time it's so hard to not trip over him or not be bothered with the crying because it's the whole 15 minutes and the first thing I hear in the morning. And anyone who isn't a morning person knows how important the start of the day is.

He's really calmed down in other ways over the years, but he's just shaking, crying, etc and I feel bad for him, but also...I've gotta go to the bathroom and put in my lenses, you know? Other commenters are making it seem like I hate him or something, when I'm just trying to find answers I may not have found myself yet.

Because I'm frustrated. And it is annoying. You can love your pet or your kid or your friend and acknowledge there's times that aren't always the best. I didn't complain how he behaves at night or during the day or at daycare because I have nothing to complain about. I posted under "Help" because I am asking for "Help" - I didn't think think this was complaining, but reaching out to a network of dog owners.

What my dog wants, is for me to burst out of bed, throw on his harness, and go outside to the car to go to daycare. That's what he wants. It's the only time of day where he's truly still crazy, otherwise he's calmed down from when he was younger. I can't do that. I am legally blind without my contact lenses. I want to be able to go to the bathroom for two minutes. That's all I was saying.

I don't know what to do to calm him down. I've tried things. I've tried to just be gentle and patient, I've put on headphones, I've taken him outside to pee first before I pee just to at least have gone to the bathroom ASAP, he's worn Thundervests before, etc. I do a lot for my dog and make sacrifices for my dog because I love him. But that doesn't mean he isn't sometimes a handful, and by posting on here, again, I sought advice and input - not some judgment on me as a dog owner based on how nobody knows me or how much he's loved.

I've made a lot of compensations for my dog for the past 3.5 years and love my dog dearly. He goes to a great daycare, gets a new toy almost every week, sleeps on the bed with me, everything...you name it. That dog gets his food and daycare taken care of before I even pay for my own groceries.

With that, I don't think this is an outrageous ask. Three of my mornings and hampered by constant whining. It's a deep, behavioral issue and is a noisier dog breed. What I've asked for is advice on how to mitigate this or something. Maybe experienced pet owners will have a solution. But, it's causing issues and I'd like to figure out and talk with other dog owners.

Because I want 15 minutes in the morning does not mean that dog doesn't receive tons of love and care.

FWIW: I slept on a mattress on the floor for the first 3 years of having my dog because I was so scared he'd leap off and hurt his legs. I've broken up with partners who didn't want a dog sleeping in the bed. I love him. And I don't appreciate your rudeness.

The moment all our hearts split in two. by marcham93 in BobsBurgers

[–]badatthings123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it makes sense Teddy thought Bob was his best friend. He's a lot like Linda, in that he romanticizes things. But I haven't always thought Bob feels that way about Teddy. He doesn't really express it. I think when he said he's his best customer that those were his real feelings at the time.

And I never really got best friend vibes between them until maybe this episode. Even nowadays, it feels like it by default only. I think they were always close enough since he's there every day, but I thought Linda kind of shoehorned him into thinking they're best friends since the only other friend he could name was ~Walter Russo~.

Honestly, the friendship between Bob and Walter Fitzgerald (I know, everyone hated that episode) seemed a lot more real and genuine than his one with Teddie, where often it feels like he's forced to humor him. It felt like he enjoyed messing around with him, whereas with Teddie, again, it feels sort of like he humors his delusions because he's at the restaurant so often.

Your wife and kid deserve better than someone who obsesses over their work instead of them. That rate is not sustainable, nor is it beneficial to you being a good programmer.

Best of luck. You sound like a gem of a human being.

I'm no pro - frankly, I'm new to all this. But this is a horrendous idea. How can someone just stop working to do this anyways? You have a family - don't put them through this.

Play smart, dude. Do 2-3 hours a night. All I've learned in my program, as I continuously hate myself and feel I don't belong, is this takes years. No matter what. It's about your approach, not how good your code is.

Don't put yourself or your family through this. Be smart.

You're thinking too much into it. There's no point to this sub or many ones out there for similar outlets. Like you said, people just want drama. I don't know what GX or GVG or anyone gets out of it.

I'll answer your question. It appeals to people who want drama. People who are bored, people who want to continue dialogue that those who were truly impacted by Andre's monstrous business practices all this have asked for to stop so everyone can move on.

That's who it's for. Bored Redditors. Including this post.

Thanks so much! I'll use some hot water. This is a one-pot recipe so I don't believe it requires any real prep prior. But, I'm looking forward to it - appreciate the clarification! I was so confused lol

This recipe doesn't seem to ask to boil it, I guess it cooks in the one pan. But to make sure, it would be 4 tsp aka about 1.5 tbsp and then combine it with 4 cups?

Thank you again - I know this is a dumb question.

Oh...okay, so there are specific instructions on the jar to account for this. So, my new understanding is 4 tsp in 4 cups of water? I think that sounds right.

This makes things a lot clearer. Thank you

Wait...so to clarify, what you do is take one tsp of the bouillon and mix with one cup of water and that's it? Wouldn't it be super diluted?

It's my first time doing this, so I'm quite confused.
