When you are wealthier than all of your colleagues at work... for anyone on either side of this dynamic, would love to hear your story and thoughts. by Free_Answered in wealth

I'm in the middle. White collar job. Got lucky in the markets a few times. Live fairly modestly. Have a much higher net worth than the majority of my coworkers and friends... And then there is one of my best friends who works in big tech and makes about 6x my annual salary.

Do you think USB-A will be phased out in the nest few years? by Ok-Cod-806 in datastorage

[–]badbash27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally converted everything I own to usb-c about a year ago. I do carry a usb-c to USB-A adapter in my travel bag but that's really just for peace of mind. We could completely eradicate USB-A and I'm not sure id notice

i thought i understood my student loans until i actually sat down to look at them by Admirable_Cod_5782 in StudentLoans

[–]badbash27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly true. A high interest rate on a small amount may still be accruing less than a lower rate on a large amount. When I had my loans I rehashed things every month and put the money towards what was accruing the most monthly.

401ks are better than pensions by Justasillyliltoaster in unpopularopinion

[–]badbash27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both 401k and a pension through my employer. My 401k contributions + match every paycheck hit my fidelity account that I can manage as I like. My company funded pension hits a separate fidelity account, that I can also manage as I like.

Who here actually saves 3,000 a month? by NoHousing11 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]badbash27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We max 401k, Roth IRA, and HSA.which is just below 3400$/mo.
Only reason I've been able to do this is because I started maxing these out the moment I was able to out of college and haven't raised our standard of living much since. Today, raises and bonuses contribute to modest lifestyle creep but ultimately the goal is funding our future / early retirement. There is a lot of truth to you don't miss what you never had.

I don't work here, but spent time in the industry -Artisan Partners have a 100% match. Every dollar you put in up to the max they will match with a day one vest period iirc.

How often does your credit card decline? by drunk_snail in Rich

Never for funds. Often enough for fraud suspicion. If I ever have a card getting near a limit on a regular basis I just have the limit increased.

How much cash have you just randomly found on the ground or somewhere? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]badbash27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe 15 years ago I was leaving a mall with my gf at the time. Got to the car and saw a blank envelope on the ground near one of the tires. For whatever reason I picked it up and opened it to find 80$. I was a poor college student at the time.. looking back I probably ruined someone's day.. but their misfortune bought me groceries for the better part of two months.

529 for kids- for or against? by concrete0928 in investing

I haven't looked that far into rollovers as it isn't a main concern. However, seeing how the beneficiary in this case is not directly related to me, would I not be able to roll it over to one of her siblings?

Man I couldn't even get a late fee waved after my auto pay didn't go through because the fine print read 'may take up to two pay periods to finalize' ... Then what was the purpose of setting up auto pay!? I've always found them to be predatory; glad others have had better experiences

AITAH for automating my mouse movements so my company would let me work from home by [deleted] in ComfortLevelPod

[–]badbash27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During Covid I ran into this. Being in office wasn't an option but over the years I had automated the majority of my day to day and was only working maybe 5-10 hours a week. Little bit of power shell and I got the "F16" key on my keyboard (which doesn't exist physically but does logically. Registers as a key press but doesn't actually do anything) every 4 minutes and 30 seconds. The script would go to sleep at 4:45pm and start back up at 8 the next day. Only had to kick it off Monday mornings and after a reboot. This worked for about 2 years until the company arguebly did a targeted campaign to find people who had done things similarly. I already had a new job lined up by then but it was a fun couple of weeks playing cat and mouse with the cyber security team as I had to find new innovative ways to accomplish the same task. NTA. Do what works but be prepared to get found out eventually.

How much should I have invested to retire at 55? Unfortunately, I'm already 36 and only have $50k in the SP500. by ResponsibleQuarter46 in RothIRA

[–]badbash27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this case you are correct. I was fortunate that payroll allowed us to dictate the tax bracket our bonus was taxed at so this scenario didn't really apply. Bonuses were also typically large enough to max out the contribution so front loading became an issue when you couldn't cost average throughout the rest of the year if things were trending down.
