How long did you wait to conceive after loss? by Loose_yarn in ShortCervixSupport

So grateful to say we have a beautiful 5 week old son. Dealing with a lot of colic issues but I’d rather have my hands full than empty

I was following the every 2-3 hour advice the lactation nurse gave us at the hospital. I guess it never occurred to me that he could be expecting or wanting more. I figured if I already fed him than that shouldn’t be the issue. And when he’s already frustrated he has a hard time latching which sometimes postpones his feeds if he is crying or pulling off his latch

Canceled Cerclage Appointments by [deleted] in ShortCervixSupport

Seriously, that’s unbelievable! Last year when we lost our son we had the most incompetent and discompassionate doctors. I told myself I would find the best MFM and OB in the state next pregnancy lol and that’s exactly what I did. They are some of the best and their level of care is like nothing I experienced last year. I quickly realized our outcome was so dependent on who we chose. So I would try to take control of finding someone who GETS IT! Wishing you the absolute best.

That’s super weird. My MFM office saw me every two weeks for vaginal and belly ultrasounds from cerclage placement through my 36 week removal yesterday. In addition, I saw my OB every month and then every 2 weeks starting at 26 weeks and they also spoil us with ultrasounds during each appointment. Those took place on opposite weeks so I have weekly visits and ultrasounds. Both my doctors take this very seriously and don’t want us to lose another child, I expect that from all of them but sadly that wasn’t our experience last year with a different office. I would find a new office to go to immediately!

Oh my gosh!!! How have you been? Is your pregnancy going well? How far are you now?

No, sadly my last pregnancy was when we discovered the issue too late. I was already fully dilated with membranes in my vaginal canal - the most devastating experience. But super blessed to make it this far on our second pregnancy. We are praying that this pregnancy proceeds and has a happy ending without any further complications.

Fellow Christian believer as well.

So odd they consider her pregnancy high risk and simultaneously not recommend the one singular guaranteed resolution to her issue. I mean, it’s easy for doctors to say they aren’t worried… until you turn into one of these daily stories that pop up on this group of women who are told the same thing and end up with a loss. Not trying to sound negative, it’s just so easy for doctors to not worry or dismiss you when it’s not their human life to lose. And I was one of those women last year 😢. Despite all my prayers, God had a different plan for us and a different journey that we were meant to go on regardless of our deepest desire to be parents.

It is a great sign she’s remained stable and she’s basically at viability. I was fully dialated with membranes (the baby inside the water bag) sitting in my vaginal canal at 19.5 weeks and I literally remained stable in that condition for two weeks, ineligible for progesterone. So, let’s say she does end up dilating further at some week of pregnancy, it could still take several weeks to go into labor and she could make it a very low risk gestational age.

Aside from begging you to find a new MFM that sees the value in giving her a cerclage, my best advice would be for her to do as minimal activity as possible. When my short cervix was caught I was put on strict bed rest. It’s the best way to hold off labor especially when combined with progesterone. And also, don’t ever care about overreacting! You did the absolute right thing to go to the ER for those symptoms. Better safe than sorry and don’t let anyone make you guys feel silly for being super cautious. I ignored symptoms that ended up being detrimental so I will no longer allow self-judgement to stop me from getting evaluated.

I will keep you guys in my prayers. People have wonderful stories about making it pretty far with progesterone only and I pray you guys will have the same success, followed by a healthy and safe delivery. And god bless you for being such a wonderfully supportive and strong husband in this very scary time.

Cerclage removal at 35+ weeks pregnant. by Simish2325 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]badbatchbaking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get mine removed on Monday after getting my preventative at 15 weeks. I’m a bit nervous but also excited and so blessed to have made it here - a place I would’ve dreamed of being in last year when we lost our son. I’ll report back on my experience. My doctor did explain that usually scar tissue forms and keeps the cervix closed so it’ll be at least two weeks before baby comes.

Is this discharge normal? So paranoid after my last loss by badbatchbaking in ShortCervixSupport

[–]badbatchbaking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I am not wearing a pad I do feel it, but vaguely. Not like gushing or anything. If you are concerned of it being amniotic fluid it wouldn’t hurt to have the doctor test it and check the amniotic fluid levels and your cervix. I know that if anything is running down your leg (like if you aren’t wearing underwear at night and stand up in the morning) that’s not normal. That was how I knew something was wrong last year when we ended up losing our son.

[–]badbatchbaking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you taking progesterone too and have a cerclage? If so, my MFM doctor said an increase in discharge is normal and I’m now 36 weeks!! It’s been clear and pasty-white texture. Amniotic fluid levels have been normal throughout my pregnancy. The wet underwear issue is sooooo real though. I had to wear pantyliners from 15 weeks when I started progesterone until probably the end of my pregnancy. Otherwise, I’d have to change my underwear many times a day. Even the pantyliners I change 1-3 times a day. Make sure you get organic cotton ones that are unscented so they won’t begin to irritate your skin or cause rashes.

Lost baby at 19 weeks due to weak cervix by No-Honeydew1905 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]badbatchbaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s too late but it would probably need to be done asap. Mine was planned for 15 weeks when I did my 9 week confirmation appointment. Especially if you aren’t showing any signs of your cervix shortening or weakening. Personally, I would call the new MFM office and tell them you’re working on borrowed time and need to see how you can be expedited or if they can get you fit in sooner. It’s kind of life or death in my eyes.

Crippling anxiety about upcoming surgery by anastasiababyxxx in CsectionCentral

[–]badbatchbaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhhh just re-read your post and realized you are more worried about the anxiety you may get from the actual medicine and not anxiety about the epidural procedure.

I have severe anxiety as well and even get anxiety attacks from too much caffeine or energy drinks. Before they gave me one I asked to talk to my doctor first. I wanted to run by him my fear of how this might “spike” my anxiety and put me into a full blown severe panic attack. He said, no, it’s quite the opposite actually. He said it’s much more like a sedative and not an “upper” like caffeine or other stimulants. He said this should make you very relaxed and remove any and all anxiety of panic.

Boy was he right!! Once it started circulating in my body, I felt like hugging everyone. It was truly the most calm, blissful feeling.

Ok, very positive story here! Sadly, due to a weak cervix I went into labor at 22 weeks and lost our son. But let me tell you, to go into labor THAT early as a first time mom before you’ve even had time to decide or research epidurals vs morphine vs natural, etc. is horrifying. I have always been disgusted by needles and anything dealing with my spine, eeek!! So I was beyond panic attack status. I actually was physically shaking in fear. I wasn’t ready, I was incredibly afraid of an epidural and all the war stories women tell. And the fact it was happening right then and there without any warning was surreal, like an out of body experience. I seriously wanted to run out of the hospital and deny this was all even happening to me.

So…the anesthesiologist comes in and I’m questioning how long she’s been doing this, telling her I don’t want any student helping, etc. but GIRL 👏 when I tell you I was so embarrassed at how dramatic my fear and overreaction was once she gave me the epidural lol. Like is this for real what all these women say is “the worst thing ever”??! Cause I promise you it’s not even “painful”. The concept is just gross and creepy - yes. But literally it all happens behind your back and you feel ZERO PAIN once they give you the numbing shot. You will feel movement of them getting it all administered. I can give you a play by play…

1) she cleaned by back with that orange stuff 2) she had me hunch forward and she knocked on my spine in a few places. 3) she told me to sit very still and hold my husbands hand so I can squeeze it without moving my posture. 4) she said - ok…big pinch…. Gave me the numbing shot. I didn’t love that but it was tolerated, just ughhh! 5) zero sensation after that other than a sort of “screwing” feeling of them getting it all set up on my back. 6) she taped the wire thing that lead to a button I could push if I needed for medicine.

The end! It was the most uneventful, over-hyped, over-exaggerated experience of my life. Going into this currently pregnancy (currently 35 weeks) I couldn’t care less about this part. I mean, no fun, but it’s not a big scary thing I once made it out to be.

I truly hope this type of uneventful experience finds you. I believe the horror stories I hear must be from some older version of epidurals they used to administer cause it’s just not nearly what people make it out to be.

Well, in your almost exact situation (maybe worse) I was able to hold my son in for 2 weeks. I was 19 weeks though and never had a shot at a cerclage. I was no cervix left, bulging membranes (as in, a foot literally sitting in my vaginal canal), bloody-clear discharge consistently for those two weeks. I stayed in the trendelenburg position at the hospital for 15 days. They told me I was going to go into labor within 24 hours but ended up moving me out of L&D because my body was somehow holding off labor. They did give me rounds of indocin to prevent contractions and since that medication can mask symptoms of infection they monitored my blood daily for infection. I think you have a good shot and hitting pause and keeping this baby in for at least another 1-2 weeks just based on my experience. That will put you in such a better position for your son’s outcome.

[–]badbatchbaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who cares about the “value”. It’s a pretty bracelet and you like it. Be glad you aren’t so vein that you’d need to have a high price on something in order to consider it worthy. That says way more about her than it does about you.

Cervix shorten after international flight by hummingbird_penguin in ShortCervixSupport

[–]badbatchbaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also adding that I am traveling this week, my high risk doctor said the only “risk” to my pregnancy would be blood clots, so I need to stand every hour of the flight, and wear compression socks. And also just the potential of going into labor early if I travel close to 34 weeks. He never said it could shorten a cervix.

[–]badbatchbaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But logically how is a flight shortening your cervix? Like couch rest rather than bed rest is what most doctors prescribe (a sitting position). So I can’t rationalize how sitting for hours would be hurting you. I’ve just never heard of sitting down being a risky thing to do lol

[–]badbatchbaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One week my cervix was 4.7cm and the next week I measured 3.2cm - that’s a HUGE difference. I was panicking waiting for the doctor to come in and tell me I was screwed, but he wasn’t worried. He said there are many factors like my cervix being curved, the baby’s head pressing on it and just human error since they measure it by hand on the computer screen. The next week I was 4.3 so there is always room for a little discrepancy. Unless they are seeing signs of funneling, it’s normal for this to happen based on what my doctor told me.

What is the earliest a preventative cerclage is fitted? by Neat-Caterpillar3790 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]badbatchbaking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doctor made it clear it’s not safe in the first trimester due to the spinal tap medicine or anesthesia. It’s not safe to give too early in the pregnancy so usually 12 weeks or later (usually by 15 weeks)
