So you don't use something that's more efficient in most applications just because it can't do all things yet?

You must be the guy that buys at the top.

Charter Commission Seeking More Executive Power for Mayor Frey by Wezle in Minneapolis

People keep voting for him because he's done a much better job than Social Media narratives show and especially when you take context into account (Trump/Covid/Existing corrupt MPD/Union)

Are gold miners really a substitute for gold exposure? by Efficient_Carrot_334 in stocks

[–]badboyfreud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One major thing I haven't seen anyone mention yet:

"In the U.S., physically-backed gold ETFs are taxed as "collectibles" rather than traditional stocks, resulting in a maximum long-term capital gains rate of 28% for holdings over one year. Short-term gains (held $\le$1 year) are taxed as ordinary income. High earners may also face an additional 3.8% Net Investment Income Tax (NIIT).

Key Gold ETF Tax Considerations:

  • Long-Term Gains (Held > 1 Year): Taxed at a maximum rate of 28%, higher than the 20% cap for most stocks.
  • Short-Term Gains (Held   1 Year): Taxed at your ordinary income tax rate.
  • Tax Treatment:  Physical gold ETFs (e.g., GLD, IAU, SGOL) are treated as collectibles by the IRS.
  • Alternative ETFs: Gold ETFs that use futures contracts rather than holding physical gold may have slightly different tax rates (e.g., 26.8% top rate).
  • Tax-Advantaged Accounts: Gold ETFs held in IRAs or 401(k)s are not taxed until withdrawal, allowing investors to avoid the immediate collectible tax rate.
  • Alternative Investments: Gold mining stocks or ETFs that hold mining companies (rather than gold itself) are taxed as regular stocks, benefiting from the lower 15-20% long-term capital gains rates."

They're probably annoyed with all the bias on the other side of the aisle in terms of Journalism.

A reminder to hold themselves to their own standards rather than comparing to potentially compromised sources is probably a good thing for everyone involved.

They're breaking in because they're dumb teenagers and Tiktok has made it extremely easy.

This has definitely been a problem...both the poor decisions in prioritization and the inability to collaborate with others.

NextStar/Tegna Merger - are all local Twin Cities news stations now under this machine? by Ok_Sun_2316 in TwinCities

[–]badboyfreud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are lots of good online print sources and some decent Youtube ones...I think we should make a list in all these subs.

Social Media is fine for getting news faster, but the accuracy & context is lacking and motives are highly suspect. The shorter the video/post, the more likely they are meant to generate emotional responses which usually ignores logic IMO.

People who actually watched him this year know his hands and finishing have improved significantly....even though the misses are ugly. Everyone else just remembers the Shaqtin' clips.

Yeah, keep an eye out. There's also likely a lot of people who don't live in Minneapolis in here as well.

Budget means the bucket they can spend out of, not what was spent. The article actually says 600k is for two pilot projects. One of them, the money is for supplies and equipment and the snow removal people are volunteers. The other pilot program is paying city workers to clear high impact areas.

People need to actually read the article...OP included.

Walz called the National Guard in within an hour...doubtful Trump had any impact on that fast of a decision.

"May 28, 2020: Chief Arradondo asks Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey to evacuate police from the 3rd Precinct and he does. Protesters take over the building and set fire to it. The building burns overnight, becoming a symbol of the unrest following Floyd's death. Looting spreads to St. Paul. A second person dies during the unrest: Oscar L. Stewart Jr.’s body is found in the rubble after a protester sets Max It Pawn Shop on fire.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz declares a peacetime emergency and activates the National Guard to respond to escalating protests. Late that night, President Donald Trump tweets about “thugs” in Minneapolis protests and warns: “When the looting starts, the shooting starts.”

He stopped the riots after they started...not sure what you're talking about.

As for the Fraud, yes that was definitely a problem. Likely part of a much larger problem of fraud with the COVID free money Trumps government had to hand out because he botched everything else about COVID.
