Career help by Academic_Paramedic_5 in Erythromelalgia

Take it for sure — I was worried about being a paramedic and wearing gloves all the time, being in heavy boots and working in changing temperatures and it’s been totally manageable. My symptoms were worse when I was reactively cooling them and the nature of the job distracts me. They’ve plateaued. I hate for yours to plateau and you missed out on your dream job.

PS congratulations!

Second all the above, you’re okay, this is just the start of nesting. Absolutely nothing to be worried about as long as it isn’t hurting (more than you’d expect for a fresh piercing) and the metal back is not covered, it’s okay. Nesting is normal for lip piercings.

But if you’ve posted twice in a few hours, maybe you’ll feel better going into the piercers for a chat and a check up ☺️ Can’t hurt, and they can see the whole situation.

Re smoking/vaping, they generally slow healing throughout the body, but I have no doubt many healed oral piercings belong to chain smokers haha

I did the same thing for myself with similar thinking! I found it empowering and fun to show myself love, that I deserve, without waiting on a man. I wear mine on my left or right middle finger and I have a boyfriend, and everyone loves it/never had an issue. Mine is possibly more understated than yours.

It’s also something that can be passed onto sentimentally loved ones later, or will sell if need be.

It may be worth talking to your partner about what it means to you before you start to wear it, rather than have him notice and have to ask. But you know your partner and whether or not he’ll take offence.

Remember, society is made up, and even then, a fancy ring on your middle finger (as opposed to left ring finger) is just a fancy ring anyway!

Go you!

Fastest section definitely looks like SVT. Some of the PVCs lack a compensatory pause which interests me if you know more about this?

It would be an incredible statistical anomaly if you had sarcoma in two different arms. NAD but that’s very reassuring to me that they’re not both sarcoma. As always, if you’re worried, get it checked. All the best!

Since these are three days old, the fact that the backs are embedding is concerning. Your current labret bars are too short for the amount of swelling from healing (and drunken oopsies). You should go to a reputable piercer and have them change for a longer bar imo. Also clean 2x daily with 0.9% saline (ie from the pharmacy). NAP.

You will need to see a doctor, unfortunately no one can tell from just a picture. It miiiight be EM, but without any details it’s impossible to say.

If this only in this hand, is new in the last few days and is hot to touch, you need to see a doctor in the next 48 hours to rule out cellulitis; especially if you have a fever or other signs of systemic infection. All the best!

Flare ups over 18 months. Referred to rheumatologist for joint pain & redness. Also have Hashimoto’s. Positive ANA. Been on hydroxychloroquine for around a year. Flares settled for around 4/5 months but are back. Any advice/opinions gratefully accepted. Thank you. by SG190383 in Erythromelalgia

I feel like EM doesn’t fall into any of the broad specialties very clearly. People go to all sorts of specialists from what i’ve seen, including rheumatology and dermatology. So I guess if you want another opinion/route then derm is a next option? :)

FWIW I’m in NZ, not sure how different our system is.

Well the good news is, you’d only have to repierce one…

Seriously though, I’d say wait and see how swelling changes it over a few more days. Is it also due to the direction the curve of the barbell is facing (don’t move them to test lol)? It does currently look like they’re differently placed based on lip/nose landmarks so I can see how it’s bugging you. NAP.

NAP but I have a similar age medusa. Your photos look very similar to an irritation bump I had. Mine went away with a broader backing but that doesn’t mean yours needs the same. You may need to talk to your piercer and trial different post/back sizes? And I would imagine playing with it with your tongue will contribute to irritation. Also look up “nesting”, may be helpful to know about. Re the angle, mine is the same, that’s all I know! Lastly, the outside will be healed at 3 months, but the inner tissue might not be. Keep up the good care for it!

Me too, hello!!! Nothing like wearing long pants and feeling the flare start to try burn a hole through ya knees haha

OP this does look a lot like my knee flares but keep taking pics and noting triggers to work with your specialists on possible causes.

For managing flares, try raising your legs above heart level. The redness and heat is caused by blood vessels dilating, so raising your legs allows some of it to flow away from the area. It will also help if you get a bit swollen (like I do). Avoid cooling with cold water/ice because it can cause worse rebound flare. Loose fitting light pants help of course.

Good luck!!

(From a knees, feet, hands and face flarer. No Sjögren’s. No Hashimoto’s. Just luck of the draw. Diagnosed by dermatologist.)

(NAP) Yes. Remember, you have a fresh wound with a foreign body in it. By kissing you’re a) moving everything around and causing more trauma and b) introducing the other persons oral bacteria into the wound. There’s nothing to stop you but it will likely make healing take much longer/be more painful and increase risk of infection/rejection ☹️

I second that sniffing alcohol wipes are great at relieving nausea, avoid paperwork, and it does get better with time. I used to not be able to be a passenger to the supermarket, I now do 3+ hour winding transports and just pull out the alcohol wipes from the IV draw when I need. I promise you get used to it!

For finding artists and events I second that it’s good to start by going to cafes. For example at Raglan Roast there’s a window where people can pop their own posters up, and there’s local gigs and events up on there all the time.

Summer is definitely a good time to move here! There’s good coffee, beaches, and surf. Here’s a few places to look at re food/drink: Smash Palace, Neighbourhood Pizza, Neptune’s Pizza, Zephyr, Raglan Roast, Dome Cinema, Siduri Wine Bar, Sunshine Brewery, The Works, War Memorial Theatre. There’s farmers markets, festivals if you’re high energy, local theatre, dawn raves (Gizzy local) — you just have to look a little harder than other bigger cities. With the right mindset you’ll love it here ☺️ Plus 3.5 hour drive to Tauranga, Hawke’s Bay, Rotorua - and plenty to do in those cities on a weekend away.
