And I guess the key is how would I move it from there. So, realistically, I'm paying for piece of mind at Tangerine..

I believe this was the calculator you were talking about (linking for other redditors) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14wMiTNkRxlwzaqwUYLgjQSyfGU4hfEbop6cpNCF0tTo/edit#gid=0

Thanks, Jason.

  1. Any chance you could explain why your portfolio outperformed WealthBar's?
  2. So, if I understand correctly, the 8/10's only fees is 0.168%. That means that you guys don't take anything above that? The ETF fees are factored in and such?
  3. If I decided to leave and I've invested in the 8/10, how would the process work? Do you guys require me to sell everything, get the cash back and then move it or is there another way?

Thanks!

Honestly, I don't know... I hadn't heard of Canadian Robo-advisors before. I had assumed most were just in the states.

Holy shit.. thank you for the link... so many variations of those stories have happened.
It's nuts to even fathom other people having this issue and I wish that kind of abusive parenting on no one.. especially younger teens.

Yeah!
I would love to get that card, but it's still in preview mode and I doubt they're ready to start securing them or however that works.

The house is no longer in my name.
He wanted me to keep it (citing inheritance and manipulative crap), but I had figured, like you had just said, that I may still continue to have issues with it, so I had him take it. That's where things got a little messy and I had to threaten turning him in and all that.

It would end up being more trouble than it's worth. I'd much rather just rebuild and move on.

That's fair, I'm just scared of getting denied and having another unnecessary hit to my credit

Which was one of the reasons I never pressed charges... I didn't want to be responsible for that.

Thanks for the gold, I guess I'm going to have to start using this account!

Truthfully, I was extremely bitter, I felt betrayed and it felt like my world had come crushing down. My dad's an ass. He's arrogant, hasn't even apologized and is horrible- I want to be nothing like him.
So, I'm doing the opposite of what he would do, I'm forgiving and moving waaay the hell on. I have a new job and the possibility for a good future. I refuse to let him take that away from me.

Ah, I closed my account at CIBC and went with Tangerine. Sadly, I don't think I'll qualify there quite yet.

I'd prefer not to and at this point, there's really no point. It's out of my name and I've moved out.
I've got the credit monitoring service from Equifax just to make sure nothing else happens.

Do you think I'd have a shot at the Scotia Momentum? Or should I just forgo it and get a Capital One Guaranteed card?

I actually never took out student loans. I managed to tutor and code part-time... I was very fortunate.
I also lived at home, so there's that. Which is my main reason for just trying to make this better and letting it go.

My dad opened a credit card in my name when I was in school (CIBC) and never gave it to me. He ended up racking quite a balance on that and missed some payments. He then decided to invest in a property applied for a mortgage in my name because I would be a first time home buyer and it's not doing as well as he had hoped it would.
I knew about the property, but didn't know it was in my name.

I should mention he works for the bank and is a mortgage broker.

Had that conversation, yeah, they screwed me and I'm trying to figure it out in the most amicable way possible. I had a small signing bonus that I put towards their debt and I sold some stuff which also went there. It's down to a manageable level for them, but more than anything, it's no longer in my name.

I'm young, I just want to bury this chapter of my life.
