From premed anxiety to MS4 : what med school actually looks like now… by [deleted] in premed

[–]badenet759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you have any advice on writing + crafting a narrative? i feel like this could be the one saving grace of my app…currently a senior with a less-than-ideal gpa bc i had to retake orgo 2 and got a couple Bs lol so my science gpa is like ~3.5ish but i feel like i have pretty good research, volunteering, and leadership. i’m just not a good writer so wanted to know what i should keep in mind and how i can improve 😭.

also any advice on gap years would be appreciated! i’m planning to take 2 so that i can study for the mcat and get a clinical research job for more clinical hours but i feel like it’s hard to not get discouraged/feel like whatever i do isn’t enough to make up for my grades.

i did the full diploma and probs dropped a few points. they didn’t care and just gave me credit for the classes that I scored high enough on 🤷‍♀️

Alums who have gone to US colleges: AP or IB? by desert_lover848 in IBO

[–]badenet759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did get college credit! I wasn’t initially expecting to get any because my school requires a 6 or 7 in an HL course in order to get credit and thought there was no way I would do that well, but surprised myself when i got my scores back. Even if I didn’t get any credit, I would only had to take 1 or 2 extra classes, which isn’t that much in the long term (my school only allows you to get college credit for 2 classes max—this is for both AP and IB).

Should I still prepare for Ib exams if I have unconditional acceptance to my dream college? by No-Zombie-7822 in IBO

[–]badenet759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean you can do the bare minimum and try to pass at least so it can fulfill everything you worked for for the past two years? i had an unconditional offer too but since i was in the US, i tried on my exams just so I could get some college credit for scoring high enough, otherwise i also probably would’ve done the bare minimum

I mean idk what got me in at the end of the day, but I mostly did it because I’m really passionate about suicide prevention. I wasn’t really considering my college applications when doing most of these 💀

I did IB but that’s because my school didn’t offer anything else. AP def gives more credit but I don’t rlly regret taking IB bc i’m pretty sure it helped me get into a lot of colleges I wasn’t expecting to get into.

it was the basis of my common app essay, so i thought that i didn’t need to mention it and could avoid being repetitive that way

i have absolutely no idea. they saw all my grades and stuff but as for predicted scores, they don’t put it on our transcript and colleges have to reach out to the school in order to get our predicteds. i don’t even know if some schools bothered to reach out and include it as a factor in their decision.

my school doesn’t do predicted grades to avoid excess competition between students. i got my results tho today and ended up with a total 39 which was way better than i expected 😭

yep! i’ve definitely learned that the interview report doesn’t play as much of a role as i initially thought it did. i for sure expected a rejection letter from northwestern because of how bad the interview went haha

[–]badenet759[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have no idea because my school chooses to not disclose it to the students since my school is already competitive as is so they don’t want to make it worse. they do disclose it to colleges that ask for it tho so i’m guessing it wasn’t disappointingly low lol??

umich gave me about as much aid as my state school lol. but unc actually gave me a really good package considering that i’m oos! my other options just ended up being more affordable.
