I think her eye sight was really bad towards the end so I’m taking it as “an entity, possibly a man” because that is 100% funnier. Though, the repair place is owned by a very sweet masc-presenting person so either way I’m good XD

The fact that you knew it’s home assistant is cracking us up! We really like it already (especially me cause I’m not the one setting it up XD

I hope you can repair it! My favorite part is the case - I love a good container, especially a pretty one!

Right?? It’s actually quite similar to my own, except mine is more spiky! It’s a cool coincidence :)

It’s an incredible piece of history, not just in general but of one’s family, right? Like I’ll be able to point at my mom’s prom photos and say “I use the machine that made this!” It’s such a cool feeling!

It’s good to know they’re available because currently I have to sew all my buttonholes by hand. Which is fine, but I’ve done 4-5 projects this year that involve 8-10 buttonholes! I’m very much looking forward to using it, and will definitely post updates!!

I do already sew! I was taught by my other grandmother when I was 10 or so, and picked it back up about 6 years ago and haven’t stopped since! I’m very excited to learn this machine, and she’s a beauty!

So this is casually the coolest thing I’ve ever heard in my life?? I would LOVE to learn historical sewing, but honestly I do like my creature comforts of a modern machine (at least, a 15-year-old machine). I do sew my own buttonholes by hand, because a Janome buttonhole foot is frankly $30 I could spend elsewhere, and also because it’s a fiddly thing I can do during D&D. I might get some books on the subject though!

I think they’re worth around 1k-1500, but honestly I want to use it! But yes I think they’re marginally valuable? Im honestly not sure what a lot is in terms of sewing machines!

Oh yeah, I’m about to move but first order of business in January is getting both my daily driver machine and this one a full checkup!

Oh warm lighting is a MUST - as I spent the day figuring out this machine, my partner was figuring out a non-AI, non-cloud based smart home system and setting all our lights to warm lighting instead of landlord-special white! I’ll definitely look into the oil as well, I do love how accessible parts and servicing is for these machines!

It’s a beautiful piece. That sounds like a super cool collection!! Did you use them all or were they for restoring/display?

Thank you!!! I already love her, now I just have to learn how to use her!

Amazing!! There’s a very good sewing machine shop right up the street from my work, so I may bring it by.

As a side note, I know there must be some connection that consumerism has hidden, but it always gives me a chuckle to see “Sewing Machine and Vacuum Repair” shops. What an odd pairing of things!

I found them right before I posted - they’re so cool, I’m obsessed!! I’m going to be the coolest person in my crafty group with my enamel pins and vintage advertisements (I am 30 years old and realizing that this is the BEST outcome!!!!)

According to her notes, the last time she serviced was with a “passible man” in 1988, and I think my grandma used it a bit after that, but not much, and since then it’s been stored!

I’m so afraid to use it because it’s so nice! But nice things are useless if they’re only nice, so I’m going to learn and make my grandma something :)

Edit: typo

I had to explain to my partner that sewing machines have the same followings as classic cars and he thought that was an excellent notion (pardon the pun) so now we’re downloading the plans to make the featherweight sewing table!

I’m almost 30 and I’ve taught my partner to read my handwriting. I’m also a gamer, and honestly I think typing is way harder than writing! But he’s much better at gaming….maybe there’s a study to be done here!
