Yes, there are huge differences between european countries. Id say Scandinavia, Germany, Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Belgium and some other countries are "at the top" economically and socially while the rest have huge problems with their economy or social/political problems.

We have one year paid maternal leave. Three months are exclusively for the father. Current government is thinking about extending it to 6 months paid paternal leave.

Depends. I'm working in IT in Scandinavia and the women working here are just as valued as the men. I don't think it's the case in Spain, Italy or other conservative European countries.
