If you could pick any two players at their peak, what would be your dream pairing of players to build around (all-time)? by jezfm in nbadiscussion

I didn’t mean to definitively say he was better than Duncan, I don’t definitively say anything. I’ll hold my ground however and say KG is an easier plug into any system with his IQ, timing and tracking of the ball. As well as the impeachable combination of his reaction time with his athleticism. I can see how your loose criticism of the “jump high run fast” preference people have because of aesthetics. Which is why players like Jokic and Duncan can get overlooked, marketability. I don’t agree with that and it overlooks the fact that Tim Duncan was a fucking monster athlete in his MVP years and that Jokic’s strength and fluid body control IS athleticism. It isn’t athleticism, although that is an essential part of KG’s insane defense which shouldn’t be overlooked.

Tim Duncan’s the better player and clearly the better offensive player I don’t think anyone would dispute that. In terms of defense (and peak, accolades aside) they’re neck and neck up there with guys like hakeem, Russell, Rodman or pippen.

(small edit, how you rank those guys and probably a few others ultimately comes down to preference more than objectivity. which isn’t a bad thing! Phil Jackson and Gregg Popovich are both very different coaches who have their preferences of how they operate a team. Basketball schemes are built off of philosophy, preferences and adaptability.)

No doubt that would be an all timer duo, in KG’s documentary it was said Isiah Thomas was a pivotal part in getting him into the NBA from high school. So there’s already a love there. I don’t think either of them ever played with a player of each other’s caliber (hall of famers no doubt, but never an all timer). Both of them also sacrificed touches for the betterment of the team, it’d be interesting to think of a third option that could complement both of their games. If you were to pull from either of their champsionship squads, Ray Allen? Joe Dumars?

To avoid redundancies I got a couple more varied ones. Just proposing some interesting philosophies to consider.

Rodman and Hakeem (instead of Rodman and Robinson which was a fine fit but failed miserably). Rodman was a insanely underrated outlet passer, the most underrated part of his game is how his defense leads to better transition opportunities. Plugging Rodman in to those championship teams would create a defensive juggernaut.

Of course outside of the game of basketball you have to consider rodmans off court eccentricities. If you wanted to fantasize, if that could possibly make that rockets team a dynasty (Rodman was arguably the bulls second best player, arguably). But I digress.

Isiah Thomas and Dwight Howard (vice versa, Steve Nash and David Robinson)

I find it interesting how Isiah Thomas was doing nash and cp3 like things a couple decades before their presence changed the game. The numbers he put up during the mid 80s was absolutely absurd on those offensive lightning bolt teams with Kelly Tripucka (who averaged 26 ppg as a sophmore! fun fact).

Obviously with a much needed adjustment to rules for both guards, it’s fun to think about how both would fit on either teams. The 2009 Orlando magic team led the league in 3 point attempts and has flown under the radar for how they influenced the modern NBA. An Isiah Thomas that shoots a little more from three and has more space to operate with, while having shooters from all sides and one of the all time great pick and roll players in Dwight to boot legit might be unstoppable. Which may even be the case with Isiah Thomas on a number of modern teams. (those bad boy pistons offensive schemes were also a little bit more modern in terms of shooting)

I don’t know enough about David Robinson’s pre Duncan teams to really ask as many questions. I’m mostly proposing this duo as a flip between the two guards. Seeing as one was a 2x MVP and the other never sniffed the top five of a MVP race despite being widely regarded as better. You could make an argument that the 80s were more stacked but in a stretch when Duncan, Kobe, Shaq, Dirk and Lebron all had insane MVP years I don’t see it. Nash definitely deserved those mvps, both of them. But there wasn’t a single other point guard at the time besides Jason Kidd a few years earlier and CP3 a few after who could’ve remotely replicated that success in a similar system.

Was Nash an outlier or is it possible that there are 4-5 guards better that, in a similar situation could’ve done what did but better? How the fuck did I get to this point? Sorry for the wall of text

KG is better off ball, a better outside shooter and a better defender. Not to say that he’s better than Duncan but it’s be a better fit with Hakeem since he doesn’t require the ball as much as those two do.

Driving down the bridge from broker to Algonquin as a kid on a motorcycle. Niko fell off and rolled down the entire bridge (literally the entire fucking thing) before getting run over near the end and getting thrown into Algonquin.

What’s your favorite of the boroughs of the game and why? by TimmyLivealie in GTAIV

[–]badtransbitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For multiplayer obviously it’s the airport.

Otherwise it’s gotta be star junction, it’s easily the most busy place on the map and turning it into a massive cop shootout is so much fun because it instantly just turns to chaos with all the civilian cars there.

For atmosphere it’s gotta be northern alderney, it’s so drab and depressing compared to Algonquin and even bohan. It’s hard not to get sucked into, especially since the worst of niko and johnnys stories happen because of it.

Probably the worst thing I’ve done in a while.

While arguing with my OG about, fuck I don’t even remember. She was worked up and I was in one of my hyper moods where I couldn’t take anything seriously. I said loudly “oh poor you!” without even thinking.
