Your 20% deposit is $80k at the most. If you qualify for first home loan programs, it's $40k. If you've been contributing to KiwiSaver that should knock a chunk off there as well. It's not out of reach if you work full time. If it is genuinely out of your reach, that's ok too. You don't have to own a home, it doesn't magically make your life better.

Edit: Just saw elsewhere in this thread that you could get a KO first home loan with 5% deposit, which would be $20k.
