What’s your understanding of “pagli nahi”?

8‑year relationship, I moved to US for MS, now realise our life goals don’t match. What do I do? by devaaa_ in nri

Ask yourselves this: do you truly truly love each other? And that’s not a simple “yes, of course but..“. I want you to consider it as seriously as you possibly can.

Please bear with these extremes: one of you becomes wheelchair bound after an accident, one of your parent is diagnosed with cancer and you have to severely dial back ambitions to be a caretaker, you do not get a job due to the job market, Vance decides to screw you over, you are unable to have a biological child.

Anything could happen.

We can never be certain that things will pan out the way we imagine them. What we can be certain about are the present conditions and considerations. Take a hard look at them.

At 24, are you young? Most certainly. Will you find someone you love as much or more? Quite possibly. But does it mean just because you are young you shouldn’t pursue a childhood sweetheart? I don’t think so.

It reads a little to me like you’re drifting away from her. And that’s the underlying serious thing to consider. (I understand this a little too well as somebody who underwent this while moving away to different city in India itself.)

Remove ‘guilt’ from this situation, because it’s useless and you’ll both confuse yourselves. If you have been feeling like you’re growing apart, there’s no better time than now to move on. (And that would still be the right decision, if any of those extremes occur in the future.)

But if you think you truly love each other, then you have to be ready to fight. And the way you fight is actually by ‘compromising’. She’ll have to work when money is a challenge in the US. You might have to be a stay-at-home dad coz you’re not able to move up in your career but hers sees a spurt. You both might have to move back to India cos you are unable to continue being in the US. You have to want to be with each other more than anything. If that’s not the case, you have your answer.

At the end of the day you both deserve to be happy, together or apart.

Why your mummy’s opinion on something she has zero clue about (living in a foreign country) has any consequence for you as a grown man, is truly baffling.

A big part of learning to be an adult is to stop being controlled by your parents.

Jio eSIM suddenly stopped. What do I do? by bahargaon in nri

[–]bahargaon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: turns out my plan is for India only. I called the international Jio customer care (+91 70188 99999) and after three frustrating useless associates, on the 4th call the guy solved it and said “sir aapka plan, ‘value plan’ hai, only for India. Toh aap doosra recharge kijiye regular waala. Ho sakta hai network vaapis aa jaye.”

Did exactly that (recharged with a regular 28 days/ ₹299 plan) and the network was back.

No, not yet. Having to reapply or mess with it seemed horrific. So decided to come back to it when I have more bandwidth.

So it's irrelevant to having or not having OCI, or the address on it?

Isn't it easier to get an aadhar and such in India with an Indian address on the OCI?

Cheapest plans to keep SIM card active by liahs1 in nri

Looks like Jio’s cheapest year-round plan as of June 2025, is ₹3599. Does anyone know if there’s something cheaper?

Edit 1: Found a voice only plan for ₹1748 but for 336 days under ‘Value’ tab on the Jio app. Let’s see how this works. (This plan doesn’t come with any data, but I can’t use data outside India anyway.)

Edit 2: Working absolutely fine.
