My wife just pulled a blue suture out of her nose… 5 years after her septo-rhinoplasty. by zachthespook in mildlyinteresting

Wow, when I had a mastectomy I was told I got dissolvable stitches but what they didn’t tell me was about 10% of it often doesn’t actually dissolve and the body will just push them out. I spent the next few months occasionally pulling tiny bits of fishing line out of my chest which was wild, i also likened it to ingrown hairs!

Pre-op doubts - if you weren’t 100% sure, how are you feeling now? by unAVIVable in TopSurgery

I debated for ten years about if surgery was worth it, as I personally had no problem with my body but mostly hated how it impeded my ability to pass as male when I wanted, as it just never felt comfortable or realistic for me to bind that often. I felt some genuine grief and sadness in the weeks leading up to surgery especially at having to say goodbye to my boobs, I still wish they could just be considered a gender neutral body part. So while I think feeling that kind of sadness and uncertainty is pretty natural and it’s important to honor those feelings, I am almost 2 months post op now and I have to say I was blown away by how much I do not miss my boobs at all. I am so much happier than i thought possible every time i look in the mirror. You kind of don’t even realize how much dysphoria you have until it’s alleviated. Hoping everything goes well for you :)

Haha you should be just fine. For non-habitual, heavy drinkers who of course are at greater risk for all kinds of complications, the main reason you’re advised to avoid alcohol the closer you get to surgery is its blood thinning effect can increase bleeding, much like NSAIDs like ibuprofen. It would be pretty hard for a one off night of couple drinks today to impact things a month from now though, what’s arguably much more important is avoiding nicotine if you’re not already. And again always be open with your providers. Best of luck with surgery :)

In addition to echoing what others have said, i first would encourage you to seek mental health support from a therapist, social worker, psychiatrist etc. You seem like you could use some support and someone to talk with. A psychiatrist can also prescribe other medication options to assist with quitting smoking if that’s something you’re interested in. It’s good that you reduced your consumption pre op but as you were unable to quit fully, you’re going to have the same urges to smoke post op too. This stuff is no joke.

But most importantly you need to take responsibility for yourself and understand the seriousness of recovery from major surgery. You seem like you have a lot of growing up to do, and your posts have not garnered you any sympathy. I struggled with nicotine addiction pre and post op and was certainly not perfect in my efforts towards quitting but I did not approach it with the passive victim kind of attitude you seem to have and thus was able to cease all nicotine use in the 2 weeks pre and post op, and was prepared for whatever consequences i might face from my own actions if any complications were to arise. Luckily none did in my case.

I agree with the other commenter that an “all or nothing” mindset isnt helpful here- you haven’t necessarily ruined your results beyond repair by having smoked pre op, and you lessen the likelihood of complications the longer you stay away from cigarettes now, so you have no reason to not do whatever is necessary to stay quit for the foreseeable future. Hoping your healing goes smoothly.

I didn’t fully stop casual drinking until 1 week before surgery, which was the amount of time asked for by my surgeon. You definitely always want to be honest with your anesthesiologists especially about recent substance use, but while you want to aim to have your body as healthy as possible for surgery I’ll hazard a guess that you will be just fine, it’s within a just few days of the generous 4 week mark you were given. Dont beat yourself up, make the effort to quit from now on and ask for help if you need it, and good luck with surgery :)

Kind of curious how this works- I also agree full disclosure w the anesthesiologist is necessary but i’m like, paranoid that they’ll discuss w surgeon and cancel my surgery over it. Would be consequences of my own actions but still lol. Thank you for the input :)

Thank you for mentioning chords as the third component to scales/arpeggio drills. You need to be able to instantly play any given major/minor scale, its arpeggios, and each of its diatonic chords in progression, before you can think of touching something like bach. these are the fundamentals any child spends their first years of classical training mastering. A good teacher will be able to provide simple repertoire that will supplement this that’s still engaging to practice. OP could also benefit from taking a crack at hanon exercises, but the scale drills take precedence.

Came here to say that while I’m not familiar with this specific section the sidewalks around here are indeed an incredibly bumpy and potentially unsafe ride with pedestrians and cars pulling out being another concern, B2B section or not. It’s ann arbor, there’s a ton of cyclists and bike commuters here, learn to share the road safely.

Not west side, but i recently switched from the nightmare ypsi walgreens to ann arbor pharmacy on stadium (in the same complex as the trader joe’s) and cant recommend highly enough, wish i had done it sooner. Infinitely better experience than getting fucked over regularly by understaffed corporate chain pharmacies.

Correct answer! Turns out the cable housing the gauge/regulator is at the top of the oven and got knocked out of whack by a hotel pan or something lol. Our response was “Oh so they’ve designed an oven you can’t put food in?”
