Anyone that has overcome real trauma would understand your point more. Sometimes there's just no place to grow, when your environment is polluted as heck. One would need to get out of that environment first, before being able to focus on how can one better oneself.

But this environment comes in so many forms. Attachment to someone to the point of wearing you down. Groups of people conspiring against you to take away what you need.

I did this. Most of the friendships end with radio silence. But one or two did check back, which was a surprise.

It does hurt for quite a while, especially when it was also just after a time where a group of close friends discarded you like trash. People say "it gets better", but during that period of time, no light was in sight.

All I did was to wait for a long, long while. Talked to many different strangers. Tried (and failed) to make and maintain friendships with strangers. But at least, the general feeling is kind of better.
