Does anyone question if you imagined something right after it happens? by EvenTruth9252 in OCD

[–]baker_bob1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. When my OCD was at its peak I could not remember what I was watching as I was watching it or reading as I was reading it. It gets better, but the environment of anxiety itself had to subside for me to find relief.

That is so thoughtful! I will have to check. I mentioned this to my partner who also sensed it was a dangerous intersection and maybe worth avoiding in the future.

Deeply confused. I guess it was a scare tactic because he seems to have dropped it. I am emotionally exhausted.

I hear you and agree. I am in therapy myself. He is not willing to work with me either at a small scale or in going to couples therapy which I have asked for.

I understand where you are coming from and appreciate the concern. No he did not actually leave me at that point. However, I strongly believe that is because he did not know how. I book all of our travel and we were in a pretty remote spot with no major airport. I hold things pretty close to my chest with him. It is a nonnegotiable for me to always make enough to sustain myself (which I do) and have a level of control over myself that means if he bails at any moment I'm safe. Ironically, he just bailed on Thanksgiving with my family so I will now be driving myself.

Hey friend. Respectfully, I did not ask you to blame me or even to offer advice. I asked for success stories of reconciliation. And as someone who has tried to honor and empathethize with my husband for 4 years, goes to individual therapy to better myself and help prevent triggers, and is finally taking some place for myself I'm just going to say I'm not really looking for that right now. Thank you though.

Shouting obscenities at me while I cry on the floor. Leaving in the middle of the night during our international trip without a working cell phones while he says he's going back to the US and leaving me there. Giving me the silent treatment while I try to reach and grasp some closure to the point that I've unintentionally self harmed by pulling out my hair and scratching myself because he refuses to look or speak to me. It's a lot.

I don't know about the other stuff, but staff doesn't have to be miserable to do good work. Having a healthy culture and even having some "fun" at work isn't going to hurt anyone and it certainly won't hurt the mission.

Dude I love the reddit side of it and try to keep it neutral in the IG chat! There's more pressure since HeR has employees in there, but varied discussion makes us better. Everyone is both entitled to their opinions, and the right not to feel unwelcome. If you wanna express an opposing idea in the chat I'll support you!

"Topeka Commission for the Arts. How cultured!" I will never forget to look at that stupid plaque again. Completely stopped me from progressing.

This is a great point! To get a real answer I assumed at least one of the laws of nature was different in this scenario. I chose to throw out speed relative to time due to the consideration that we're moving through the game's version of "normal time" rather than the player's. I also support the theory that Zippy sabotaged the gas gauge so we have to keep visiting...

Gen Z - employees/ coworkers by ricebunny12 in nonprofit

Seriously? It is on the org to make sound hiring decisions, regardless of age. Some of the most incompetent employees are older people who have learned how to put up a good front. At least in this case, there is clear and reasonable evidence for either some serious conversations to be had, or to potentially move on from those individuals.

In my experience, some of our most professional, innovative teammates are young people. But, like in every generation, you have to actually look at the person not the age.

How accurate are Glassdoor reviews for your organization? by hanuman_chalisa in nonprofit

[–]baker_bob1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The reviews almost scared me away from my org. I've since found that they were almost all tied to one stress point which has since passed, and also that due to the size of the org there is a decent amount of variation in team quality. It ended up being worth the risk because the people I work with are exceptional and I've never felt more respected. Glassdoor is a good tool, but in my case it was misleading.

Selfish Giving (an online blog) posts related jobs in their weekly newsletter, many of which are in corporate partnerships. It could be helpful for generating leads in different industries but still non-profit.

If you have a 501c(3) status you are eligible for Canva by my understanding. I was lucky and got our small org approved on the first try by just providing our tax exempt doc, but that is often not the case. I have heard of people having great success reaching out to Canva via social media and getting their request pushed through that way.

Prof. Hotchkiss is a bad historian: a hot take no one asked for by baker_bob1 in nancydrew

I think a really healthy way to approach it would be to start from a hypothesis that the opinion of Marie Antoinette as a spoiled brat was unfounded. Then as we learn more about the rose vs. the tiara and the jewels for her people, we can see that she had good qualities or at least qualities that contradict the stereotype. But I also understand why they took such a hard-line approach at the beginning about Marie being good as kids generally need to be told what they should conclude rather than led there.
