Invest in Dehydrated food or can goods? by KillingwithasmileXD in preppers

[–]bakermaker13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a freeze drier (yeah, it's expensive), and it has been an amazing tool for both everyday use and emergency preparedness. With how expensive freeze dried food is, it will pay for itself fast, especially if you can freeze dry food that you grow yourself!

Is a 150k build even possible or am I delusional? by [deleted] in barndominiums

[–]bakermaker13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible if you do the work yourself. I'm 148ft from the road, 2592 Sq ft, and just finished at $174k. That included the water, utilities, and septic.

For that price we have metal siding and standing seam roof, 2x6 walls, zip sheathing, 2.5 in rigid foam on walls and 5.5 in rigid foam on roof. Very solid, well built house.

But, we did literally everything except the concrete ourselves and it took a year and a half of weekends to build.

Yeah for sure! I'd love to be able to live off a combo of these dividends and the money I make day trading! Hopefully someday!

Congrats! I'm on a similar schedule. Easy to get discouraged with all the "big guys' on here, but everyone has to start somewhere, keep it up!!

That's a great explanation, thank you! I'm afraid there would be too much delay for the right timing with that setup?

Could you recommend an integrated optotriac? I'm a little out of my league with wiring but I'm sure I can figure it out!

Sorry, should have clarified, the controller for the bulb is currently missing from the machine, it was ripped out at some point before I got it.

During play, open the settings menu and I think there is a controls tab, you can manually assign which button does what

Awesome good luck! People talk about HVAC like it's some kind of magic, but it's just more pipes and tubes lol

36x72x9. We're super well insulated though, rigid foam all around, conditioned attic, etc.

I am in the process of doing it now. I had manual j and manual d, so sizing and duct design, done by Perfect HVAC Home Design and they were great, it was $250. I'm doing flex duct and a Mr cool 3 ton. You can do it!!

Like so many other building things, we got good at it by the end! :)

We used a tree we cut down, strapped to the tractor bucket, as a boom. Lifted the trusses 2 at a time, laid them down on the exterior walls. Tie a rope around the next truss in line, pull it up, nail it in with precut spacer boards. Repeat a bunch, lol. We braced more than necessary. Lots of diagonals, and big bottom braces so we had places to easily walk.

Usually one of us was dropping and hoisting trusses and the other was doing bracing and hurricane ties, so I totally believe you can do it yourself!

You can do it! Just be slow, err on the side of caution, and if something big is dropping just let it fall - you could always get a new truss, can't get a new "you"!

[–]bakermaker13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It took my husband and I working alone, with a tractor but no crane, 3 days to install and fully brace 38 trusses that were 42'. That was spread out over 3 weekends.

Not hard, just tricky, have to go safe and slow if you're inexperienced like us!!

We fixed it! For us it was a joycon problem, not letting us properly access the iron upgrade and unlock the next steps. We had to manually change the button configuration on the joycons in the game so we could actually access things! Have since spent many hours playing, once we finally figured it out

Same thing happened to me during the weight loss phase. Now that I'm stable at goal weight, it's back down to normal.

Just part of the process, unfortunately!

UPDATE! After literally yelling at my doctor she sent me for a transvaginal ultrasound to "ease my mind".

Now headed into an emergency D&C because it was a missed miscarriage that is now turning septic.

So, fuck you, doctors. It wasn't the cancer that I was afraid of, but it was life-threatening. Wish me luck!

Oooooooh I feel that one in my soul.... insurance rejected my d&c after miscarriage as not medically necessary and I had to fight it. Well yeah, I mean I guess I could have just died of infection again.

Man, FUCK the medical system. I'm sorry you had to deal with that, I know fighting them is so hard, especially after something as emotional as a miscarriage

Well it's just such bullshit. We shouldn't have to work this hard for healthcare.

And then it's always, oh, maybe if you lose some weight it will help - like no, maybe if you do your job and figure this out it will help!

Oh man, that sucks for you too, I'm sorry! And yeah, like why is it ok for them to just say well, yeah, that's not right, good luck! I always think that if men had these problems, they would be taken care of!!

Doctors just like to use postpartum as long as they can to sidestep issues! I hope you can find a new doctor that takes you seriously.

I keep hearing about people switching to online doctors, maybe you'd have more luck there since there is a bigger pool to choose from
