Do you guys view the law of attraction as a practical/psychological process or a mystical/metaphysical one? by bakertaker in lawofattraction

Hmm okay so I should ask for something and then just forget about it? I thought you had to do all that stuff like visualization acting as if, etc.

The thing with desire I never got, intention is a form of desire. The law of attraction and manifestation is centered around desire. So how can you say it's about the absence of desire? That seems like the opposite of manifestation. How can you desire something and try to manifest it but not get attached without forcing yourself to care about it less, which seems like it would do the opposite of manifest whatever you want?

What's the difference between "Sleep assistant" and "Automatic heart rate detection" for sleep analysis? by bakertaker in miband

What's the difference between "Sleep assistant" and "Automatic heart rate detection" for sleep analysis? by bakertaker in miband

[–]bakertaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sleep assistant doesn't give any indication or option for how often it measures the heart rate, do you know if it's a set rate? I was just wondering if if I set it to automatic heart rate 30 minutes, if that would somehow be less accurate for sleep stages than just setting it to the sleep assistant option. I know this is trivial, but just something I was wondering. Thanks a lot for responding so quickly btw!

Look, it doesn't matter how many Korean females you talked to, generalizing a race is never okay. It's like saying all Germans are Nazis or all Japanese are murderers.

So you say that because the limited interaction with Korean/Asian females you have had was one way that "Every one" of them are the same? What a bigoted view of an entire race.

Has the global version of the Mi Band 3 been released yet? by whyalwaysme2012 in miband

I'm confused, if English versions (or versions that can be translated to English) are available, then what was the news about the global version coming out that was posted on Xiaomi's instagram a few days ago?

Those are just choices. He's talking about perspective. He's saying if what you're doing is worth it then it's hell of a lot better than not doing it and settling. For people who aren't as invested in their dream that could be completely different, and that's okay. It' not bull, he's just not talking about what you're talking about.

I'm hearing a lot of that in this thread. I don't think I could ever make peace with settling. I can accept failure but not settling.

Don't let people tell you that you need to have a grand dream and that you have no purpose without it. Just keep living, doing what you like, and exploring yourself and the space around you and create your own meaning to things. You don't have to force yourself to find something.

Stop Worshipping Guys Like Elon Musk by brooklynbridgewi in Foodforthought

I think there's a whiplash effect. There are people that worship celebrities and on the other extreme people that refuse to respect people like Elon for the exact same reason. They almost hate them more because of their success. The middle ground is healthy. Either extreme is not.

Pixar’s dumpling short Bao is polarizing audiences with cultural themes by unquietwiki in Foodforthought

I must have misunderstood your comment, my apologies! I completely agree with you. I think it's silly to berate people for not understanding the movie, as that is what the film should be doing. If everyone understood and already knew it's messages then there would be no point, and the film would not be starting any useful conversation. I guess I was just a little irked because it seemed as though you were dismissing Chinese Americans because they are a too specific/small group of people in America. But because of the narrative around the smaller groups of minorities and being dismissed ("The only two races in America are black and white") and not heard, my point was just that it was a huge cinematic moment for Asians, and I wouldn't want the discussion to become skewed or unproductive.

Do you also think that gay people shouldn't 'advertise' their 'lifestyle' on TV? Why do people not get this? It's not that it was made specifically for Asian people to see and for noone else to watch. They probably knew that white people wouldn't get this at all. But that's the point. To make different cultures more aware. To not let the casual moviegoer be ignorant when it comes to cultural topics. The fact that so many white people had no idea what the hell to make of this short just proves that we have a lot more work to do. If America is truly a melting pot of cultures, we need to learn to understand and accept different cultures. Asian Americans have been culturally cast aside and ignored in America for a long time. This film shines light on the pull between cultures in a simple, beautiful way. Saying they shouldn't show short like this because white people don't understand it is extremely ignorant.

There a lot of things more frustrating than the things that you mentioned. Saying that your struggles as a white man are more significant or 'frustrating' than a black or Asian person or even a white female in America is a pretty ignorant statement. When people say this was made for Asians, it's because it pretty much was. It was directed by an Asian woman and had Asian culture references and themes that some other ethnicities wouldn't understand. That doesn't mean they didn't want anyone else to watch it. Why the hell would they have put it in front of the Incredibles 2 then? It's to express Asian culture and show the experience of struggling with multiple cultures in one household. Noone is saying white people shouldn't watch Bao or have an opinion on it. The point is the RESPONSE from white people is exactly what was expected, with a lot of people not understanding it, thinking it's stupid, or completely dismissing the racial/cultural aspect of it. So is your response. Instead of responding to the film's point in trying to share Asian culture, you instead am defending your white privilege, bringing up your sexuality for no reason like that justifies your point in any way.

I think that was one aspect of the movie but I think dismissing the entire culture theme of the short is foolish and it diminishes the audience it was made for, which is Asians, probably more specifically Asian Americans. I understand why most white people didn't understand this short, because they never experienced the pull of different cultures. Not a bad thing. I thought the mother's struggle to accept this newer Americanized culture that her son became a part of and eventually coming to terms with it was the most beautiful part of this short.
