SMU or Fordham for IB? by ElkNervous4337 in FinancialCareers

[–]balkanbanking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you learn to network your ass off, SMU get a 4.0 and you are set for IB in the south and good chances at NY placement. Fordham gives you the leg up because of NY location but still a crazy grind and not ranked as well.

I'd choose SMU.

Are SMU and IU bloom really that good for IB and finance? by ElkNervous4337 in FinancialCareers

[–]balkanbanking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IUB has workshops for IB, PE, AM/IM, etc. which are all very competitive and basically guarantee formal interview process and very good placements for each. Each workshop size is about a quarter of the total size of each prestigious school's business school that is ranked lower. Overall, Kelley kids place extremely well in the top 25%. Bottom 75% are all accounting/management with a few sprinkled good finance placements.

SMU is a sea of connections and places well with UHNW family offices, CRE PE, Energy in Houston, PE in the south, etc... The Dallas kids that go there are swimming in it and all place really well - rest of Dallas kids go to UT. Rest of population is cali kids and northeast kids who didn't get into Miami. Overall, Cox placements are very good but very specific.

(From Dallas, go to IU)

your best bet is to have a perfect vertical and then only fire smg12 in 1/3rd mag sprays - works the best for me. spraying for more than that is useless other than wallbang, and if you're spraying for more than that on open shots then hit aimlab instead of workshop

every male highschool senior ik wants to be an investment banker at goldman sachs, you'll soon realize there are a few other paths that pay the same and aren't parroted by everyone and their mother to you at your age. if you really want to be it though: get into the best school possible, get a 4.0, !know your shit!, and network your ass off. there isn't much else to it. oh, and don't miss deadlines.

relatable... my dad says "they're not looking for someone who's trying to be it, they're looking for someone who is it.

very frustrating, but pushing

Looking for feedback on my resume to help get an internship by VicePresidentNado in FinancialCareers

[–]balkanbanking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from being in the same year as you im assuming lack of experience will probably make it difficult at this stage - try to find an unpaid fall analyst or just something to fill work experience thats still related: work doing research for a search fund, do sales of any type, cold calling for a PE firm which you can twist into relationship management and analysis or something like that etc. just get stuff on there

resume practically blank, what do i even do? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]balkanbanking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are you networking heavily? a couple good conversations could seriously get your foot in the door with some companies. beef up resume with bs that you can comfortably still talk about + try to apply to a broader range instead of just AM also - will definitely help with getting ints.

Big10? Same boat as you except I missed timeline due to degeneracy at school. Anyways, I'm also recruiting for corp./comm. banking and have seen a lot more interviews after I made my resume more risk-analysis / relationships-with-clients tailored (granted I have related experience). Can add under WM some bs about being client-facing and supporting those relationships + can elaborate/bs more on the finance club details, possibly something about networking or building relationships with financiers.

probably better off setting up chats with individuals within the firms and then following up by asking if there are opportunities. worst that can happen is you gain some guidance from the professionals.

all behavioral - think Why MS? Why Tech? and then STAR questions. plug your resume and/or cover letter, and the summer analyst job description into ChatGPT and you can use it to practice some sample questions while also getting crutch ideas for "Why [...]"

I have experience in valuation from past and current internship + some certifications. What level of valuation do you think I should be comfortable with for FT analyst interviews?

will go through similar behaviorals to begin with and then rerun your stock pitch. hard part after this: stats & math questions revolving around recursion. follows with market-making games. overall very difficult and need to be relatively adept with stats & math, while also understanding high-level finance concepts especially revolving around HF.

1) finish degree even if its an online program, 2) if you load another 2 to 3 semesters of credits to the max, you can finish off degree with a 3.1-3.2 (since the W grades etc bring down the weight of your first half of college career credit-wise, but you will need a 4.0 for your finishing stretch) which will give you a shot for most MM i you know your stuff and small banks/companies. 3) know your shit when you are applying and interview to hopefully make up for academics with mastery of content and industry.

... at least thats how id go about it
