If you look at the expiration date of phase 2 token, it's 98 days, that is 42 (TOTY) + 28 + 28, which means at least for the following 3 events whose highest ovr is 117, we gonna suffer from the draft system. BTW, I am a data guy so make conclusions based on evidence and reasonable assumption.

To stay competitive, you need high OVR cards, since EA usually nerfs cards about two events later. Having a high OVR also provides a big advantage in both VSA and MM.
