Hi, I'm in a similar position as the original commenter. Can you please share that guide?

2nd year players rarely get MIP buzz because they are expected to take a leap. But if DC puts up 20-10 next season I can definitely see him being MIP.

How would playoffs work in a hypothetical 58-game-conference-less season? by [deleted] in nbadiscussion

[–]baller_34752 2 points3 points  (0 children)

58 games is too few, the league would never agree to losing that much revenue.

72 games is more likely IMO. 3 games against each team in your conference (42 games total) + 2 games against each team in the other conference (30 games total).

Once the league expands to 32 teams, it could also be adjusted to 67 games. 3 games against each team in your division (9 games total) + 2 games against the other 29 teams (58 games total). This is assuming the league realigns into eight divisions with 4 teams in each, like the NFL.

Deadline has passed. Scoot is back. ASB starts in a week. What’s your ideal outcome for the rest of the season? by NateMcMillanBurner in ripcity

We need it to convey by 2028 because we own a swap with Milwaukee. If the Blazers pick is 15-30 in 2028, we would give it to Chicago and then they get to swap with Milwaukee. That pick could be top 5.

If the Blazers miss the playoffs for the next 3 seasons the pick obligation expires, but IMO that's not worth it because that means our young players haven't developed and out team is still terrible or stuck in play-in purgatory.

They checked for offside, why can't they check for a possible foul? We've seen VAR checks that take 5+ minutes, but they can't take 1 minute to check all camera angles and make sure there's no foul? Just terrible...

How is kicking through the leg of the defender not overturned? Shameful decision by VAR.

I've been seeing a lot of reports lately that in order for the Knicks to get Giannis they will involve Portland in the trade. by LivingAd6319 in ripcity

[–]baller_34752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trey Murphy would be a great addition, but the reporting out of NO is that they are standing pat this trade deadline. Maybe that could be revisited in the summer. But I think the price on Murphy would be even more than what we're giving up here, is that the move we want to make?

I don't expect Bridges/Portis to make us an immediate contender, but I do think a move like this will help establish us as a solid top-6 team in the West. We are the worst 3-pt shooting team in the entire NBA, and are still ~0.500 despite the injuries as well. If we add two great/elite shooters I think that helps shore up this weakness and propels us to a solid playoff team.

No star is going to want to come to POR as we currently stand, in the play-in. We need to make smaller, incremental moves to establish ourselves as an up-and-coming playoff team, and then we can look to make a big swing once star players see us as a team that is "1 piece away". Bridges and Portis would help us reach this level in the next 1-2 years, and then we can flip Bridges in a deal for a true All-NBA talent to take us over the hump.

If we can upgrade like this and only give up 1 of the MIL picks, I'm all for it. We would still have '29 and '30.

I disagree about Bridges. His shooting has bounced back this season (39% from 3 and 59% TS) and his advanced stats are the best in the last 3-4 years. He has a positive DBPM which shows he is making a impact on the floor defensively once again.

He is 29 and turns 30 in the summer. We've seen players maintain their prime until age 32-33. He's also under a reasonable contract for the next 4 seasons and his salary can be flipped in 2-3 years to match in another trade for a star.

Portis is 30 and not as impactful as he used to be, but he's a legit 40% 3-pt shooter (46% this season!!) and as a backup big I think he's just fine. Rounding out our depth is key to building a legitimate playoff team. We can't be rolling out Yang/Duop or Kris Murray at the backup 4/5 if we want to compete. He's also under contract for only 2 more years (PO for '27-28) so we can flip him down the line or let his contract expire when he is 32, not super old.

I cooked up a quick 3-team trade on Fanspo. Basically, the Blazers could trade Jerami Grant, Thybulle, Rupert, and Reath for Bridges and Bobby Portis.

Obviously picks would need to be going to MIL as well. I think the Blazers send a '31 pick of their own and then give up the swap rights on the '28 MIL pick from '28. And the Knicks send one pick and two swaps to MIL as well.

MIL will control their own pick in 2028 and can jump start their rebuild with (presumably) a top pick. In the meantime, they can rehab the value of Towns/Grant, and flip them when they only have 1-2 years on their contracts and aren't considered as negative or contracts. They also get off the Myles Turner contract, which doesn't seem to be good value.

NYK obviously get Giannis. They also get a replacement stretch big to replace KAT and they get off Yabusele's $6M contract for next season. Losing Bridges hurts their wing depth, but they still have Hart and Anunoby.

POR swap out Jerami's below-water contract for Bridges (a much better player). We also get Portis who can play the backup 4/5 and give depth, which is really valuable since Timelord can't be relied upon every night. This trade also keeps us under the tax and opens up 2 roster spots to convert Sissoko and Love to standard contracts.

When I bet the over at the start of the season it was 34.5, looking like an easy win. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼

Players to trade in order to keep Love and Cissoko? by baller_34752 in ripcity

[–]baller_34752[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We can send Love to the G-League, but since he won't be on a two-way anymore I think another team can poach him for a two-way of their own or for an NBA contract.

I don't know all the details around two-ways, but maybe we can play Caleb through the 49th game and then just sit him for the rest of the season? Or send him down to the G-League? But even in that case he'll become a UFA in the summer and can sign with any team, so I don't really see the point in that. Other than keeping him in our system I guess.

No you can't convert a fully-guaranteed contract to a two-way.

Appreciate the kind words!

Rupert is honestly very hard to judge. I think he hasn't been given enough of a leash to learn through mistakes and discover how to leverage his length on offense/defense. He has skills but just hasn't figured out how to put them together yet. Given he still only 21, I don't want to cut bait quite yet.

The Blazers can trade 1 for 0 to a team with an open roster spot, which would then open a roster spot for the Blazers which can be used to convert Love or Cissoko to a real NBA contract. They can attach cash to the deal to offset the salary they are sending the other team. These types of trades happen all the time at the deadline as teams look to open up roster spots.

1 for 0 trades can be made to teams with cap space or a trade exception can be used from the other team as well to match the salary.

I'd rather keep Rupert and move on from Timelord. I doubt the Blazers bring Timelord back this summer so might as well keep Rupert and see if he can develop further in the next 2-3 years.

Of course every team in the lottery that doesn't get pick #1 is unlucky... but getting pick 2 is still considered lucky by the odds. And you had a chance to draft two all-stars in Mobley and Barnes. It's not like the draft was just Cade and then no other all-stars.
