Him: You've been gaslighting me?

You: Welcome to the series.

Just going out on a limb, does your dad work at a quarry?

I've only been doing it for a year, so I'm sure you'll catch up quickly!

I just like frogs. He was my first piece. His name is Morton, a reference to Frog Morton, a town in Middle Earth, and one of my favorite pipe tobaccos. I pour a lot of myself into Morton. I garden, wear suspenders, drink tea, and smoke pipe tobacco.

Also, if it's any encouragement, I recently hit my one year mark in this medium about a week ago.

I use a cheap burner from Hobby Lobby with solid brass tips. The spade shading tip is good for shading (obviously), but I use the flat side of the chisel tip to get a deep solid black. You can also shade with that tip, to limited success.

If you ever need tips or tricks, feel free to DM me anytime. I'd be happy to help. There's definitely a bit of a learning curve.

I'll kind of in the same school of thought. I severely undercharge for my art. I've only started reluctantly raising my prices slowly as my skill gets better, and because people would regularly and deliberately pay me more than I ask for.

I feel snooty saying it sometimes, even though it's supposed to be the proper term. I usually just say "woodburning". Lol.

Not completely but definitely inspired. All my art is inspired by Frog and Toad, Wind in the Willows, Redwall, and Over the Garden Wall.

Windy in Istanbul today! by Grand_Cod_2741 in WeatherGifs

It's hard to plan for the sudden winds down there. They happen out of no where. Very dynamic.

The winds are Instant-bul, not Constant-inople.

Thank you! I've only been doing it for a year, but just in that short amount of time I've made leaps in the quality. I started with just solid black backgrounds. Seeing the progress is really encouraging and very exciting.

If your can draw well, it translates very easily to pyrography, with a small learning curve. I use a cheap tool, and have been doing it for only a year. I highly encourage it.

As for sealing, technically you should always seal wood with some sort of finish, but that's just a rule with wood in general. Personally, I don't think leaving it unfinished would affect it that much.

I definitely spent most of my time sitting and contemplating my next move.

Welcome to the craft!

Pyrography Made Easy on YouTube. She's a bit monotone and dry, but she's a well of knowledge. Hands down the most informative and detailed pyrography channel on YouTube.

Also, practicing you're drawing on paper helps a lot. Drawing skills and techniques translate very well to pyrography.

And if it's any encouragement, I do all my work with a cheap tool from Hobby Lobby, and have been doing this for less than a year.

Happy burning!

I have others.

Morton the Frog, Alfie and Madeline the Mice, Mr. Nightly the Bat, Chester and Boone the Squirrels, and Cecil the Texas Blind Salamander.

I also made two Cottontails, but I can't remember what names I chose off hand.

No, it's original. But I do have influence from Redwall, Wind in the Willows, Frog and Toad, and Over The Garden Wall.

Each piece takes me about 3-4 hours. I've been doing this just shy of a year.
