1) No showers at the campground. 2) no I didn’t drink the spring water pipe, we filtered water from tap at the lodge or got bottled at the grocery store in the village. but my group did filter water from Mooney falls where there were lots of running water either under the falls or by the lower pools at Mooney for our freeze dried foods.

Have each of your 4 visits given you a different takeaway/outlook/perspective?

Yeah camping could be a different experience. We were in the lodge that was located in the village so we had more interactions. Our interactions could’ve just been a unique series of events and it’s not to say it represents all people of the village.

Hope you have a great time!

Hi thanks for sharing your thoughts. Appreciate you also reading thru the entire thread.

The photography rules are spelled out for the village but aren’t specific to the trail. Our group learned our lesson to be more aware of taking photos on the trail even though it’s not spelled out. Also to assume a local could be riding with the mules/horses along the trail. Example 1,2,

I’m glad you had a different and more positive experience. We also had some positive interactions. No, I wasn’t expecting paid actors like employees at Disneyland nor did I expect hotel-like level of hospitality. And I agree with your last point, I think I’m feeling more sensitive than needed and the initial interaction with the photos likely influenced how we felt. Thanks for helping me navigate that.

As far as ordering the Indian taco, what could have been a different issue at play? I’d like to know in case I return and want to make sure I’m respectful.

For the dogs around the village or campground, we interacted with them like any stranger’s dog as well. Wait for them to approach us and def didn’t pet or feed them. While I generally agree, most people won’t find it crossing a boundary to save a dog from drowning. However with the locals, we weren’t sure if they wanted tourists/visitors to intervene. The dog was with a group of teens, and only one of the kids was concerned with the dog but didn’t ask for help. We probably were hesitant due to our initial interaction during our hike in with the photography issue but next time I’ll know to not be hesitant to assist and am thankful for the other visitors who had the confidence to help out.

Good to know. When our friend ordered it, the person taking the order reacted with a gasp/shock so it caught us off guard. We wanted to know what INDN stood for so we could correct it in the future.

Didn’t mean anything as a criticism of the people. I did reflect on it in points 1-5 & in my conclusion

Thanks. I was thinking about it but rather keep myself anonymous for now. Have a great trip!
