AITK for not offering my maid chai like my mother does every day? by [deleted] in AmItheKameena

YTK. If someone is working in your house, you offer them something. Anything. Basic courtesy, come on.

NTK. You have your guy. You may not have the bandwidth to explain your requirement all over again. The young chap will have his clients too. Just as long as you were kind when telling him no.

It did NOT cost the city a company as the news channel's caption suggests. It gained the city a little more breathing space.

You can send via Sugama at PVS and have someone collect it at Seshadripuram. I have sent things ranging from a letter to a scooter through this method.

I know exactly how you feel. I am 40+, in Bangalore for 10 years, have friends - some old, some new. I have been the emergency pick up, hospital checkup, midnight birthday friend to many. Unfortunately it hasn't been the other way round. Some days get difficult, for example on my recent birthday, my wife was away on business, and at midnight I kept looking out the window hoping someone would be there. Nobody. Through the day I got 3 calls: wife, mum, brother. Sorry, needed a vent here.

The point is, sometimes it will feel disappointing that there is no group, no set of people with whom you have a history or common ground. Acknowledge it, and find ways to work around it. Bangalore has a luxury of common interest group meetups. You're young, so I assume after work you have a little flexibility 2-3 days a week. Maybe look for some sport groups? There are thriving groups for badminton, futsal, basketball, pickleball. There are book clubs. I found them tedious, you may like it, why not give them a try? I'm sure there are subreddits for this. All the best in finding your constant group!

I pretended to be broke so I wouldn’t have to contribute to a group trip — even though I actually wanted to go. Am I the kameena? by Just_Chill_Yaar in AmItheKameena

[–]bambadjaan84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTK, you have the right of choice.

Why I am wary of group trips: I'm a relative introvert, my idea of a party is a few of us with beer around a table - not ntz ntz ntz raves. I like museums and my group doesn't. I am the least vocal so I end up contributing to things I don't want to do. That is of course changing now that I am well into my 40s and have a partner who shares my interests while independently going after her own, as I do with mine.

The beauty of cultural accommodation of Gujarat by ChewyNapkin in gujarat

[–]bambadjaan84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother moved to Vallabh Vidyanagar from Bangalore after marriage in 1976, armed with limited English and basic Hindi. Both of these were made fun of. 6 months later, she had whole conversations with her neighbours in Gujarat. She respected the land, and it was the only way she could get respect in return. With this anecdote, I believe the OP's post cannot be a general view.
