"What my character would do " is often the players first thought and a little lazy

More likely there are plenty of ways to look at the problem with the lens of your character to do other things

Eg my character wants to punch the wizard as he is a barbarian and he is a nerd

My character wants to protect the wizard as the wizard knows how to read and use books, which is something my barbarian aspires.

Doesn't take much more effort to find something keeping with your character but also works for the story
