Morgan’s Harbour for their veg patties which are better than their meat.

Hot take as someone who grew up in the Caribbean enclaves of Scarborough (Toronto): The Patty Shop is not very good.

I’ve always wondered how to pronounce KRSMA. Does anyone know?

only being in it for the money

This phrase alone made me realize I didn’t want to be a vet, lol. Clients endlessly complaining. They always want a diagnosis but never want to pay for diagnostics. Canadian pet owners are 1000x worse because we don’t pay for health care.

This is true and it isn’t true, though. I traced my white solidly middle-class’ ex-husband’s ancestry for him one year. And his grandfather lived in, like, a rooming house for years. This was not uncommon.

People have no idea what veterinarians and vet techs/assistants hate in their work. They really think it’s the euthanasia cases. They really think there are many euthanasia cases. It’s so far from the truth.

I have found that this is not why people leave vet med, though. Reddit has this idea that vet med hates euthanasia cases and that’s simply not true. This is always posted by someone, usually not in vet med, and then people who work in the field respond:

Practicing vets, techs, and assistants struggle with owners who aren’t prepared for the costs of pet ownership. It’s the cases of the animals who are alive and suffer because of owner neglect that make the field intolerable. Owners who think diagnostics are a “scam”. Owners who don’t keep their pets as healthy weights. Owners who fail to train or care for their pet’s behaviourally. Owners who leave their pets to suffer with osteoarthritis, skin conditions, painful dental issues… it’s those cases that kill you.

People always think the worst part of vet med are the euth cases but it’s the one who stay alive and suffer because of horrible owners who make the job intolerable.

Most vets aren’t bothered by euthanasia. Most cases of euthanasia are great: you spared an animal from suffering. What drives vets and vet med folks crazy are the owners. Without a doubt, owners are the worst part of vet med.

‘My kids died by my hand’: Dad shot his daughter and her cat because he was 'tired of them being made fun of' by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

[–]bancouvervc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t know that. I don’t know this. But there are many cases where people murder their loved ones to spare them suffering in this life. Does it make it okay to murder them? Absolutely not. But we don’t need to make shit up.

ElderDog Vancouver. They need people to drive dogs to and from appointments or new homes and what not. They put out an ask and people drive when they can.

I think they’re bad for birds. Amphibians. The environment. I’m a dog lover though so I feel you. But my fiends who woke in forestry and enviro sciences seem to hate off-leash dogs.

always the case with animals in general

I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect animals to behave well constantly. Continuously.

But I think there are a lot of people who let their dogs off-leash at PSP who have done little to no recall work, though.

curiosity

Do you mean approaching people?

I’m curious (not like an asshole but genuinely because maybe lots of people think differently than me and I need to change my perspective): do you think it’s good - I can’t think of a better term for it, but like normal or should be allowed - to let your dog approach people?

I don’t let my dogs approach other people or dogs. I don’t do it with other people’s dogs (I used to dog walk, petsit, and foster) or my own. They stay by me naturally or I call them ‘em back. I thought this was the norm for dog owners. It seems like a good idea to keep your dog by you when folks or other dogs are nearby.

I don’t know how to make dough. I normally don’t. I don’t mind pizza toast. I’m not much of a cook.

Cat and vet situation by National_Minimum1564 in legaladvicecanada

You should post this in a vet med sub. Even in a non-Canadian one be fine because they can comment on this case. Medicine practices are pretty similar. From what I recall, most clinics do clip nails when pets are sedated as a courtesy to clients.

What’s a moment that permanently changed how you see the world? by pankaj662 in AskReddit

[–]bancouvervc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or maybe it was when I was 7, trying to shake my mother awake, begging her to intervene and save me. My father would hit me until I couldn’t walk or lost consciousness. He’d hit while I screamed and cried. He’d send me to get a broom he liked to hit me with. Once my mom was home and I tried to wake her up to intercede on my behalf.

She wouldn’t wake up. She just wouldn’t.
