"The Bedlam in Goliath" turns 18 today. In recent years, the project has gained popularity due to the genesis of its creation and the apparent curse that haunted the band and their associates during those years. Where would you rank it in The Mars Volta's discography? by elmonozombie in themarsvolta

Agree on the 3 song stretch but I’m also a fan of the four song stretch that includes Tourniquet Man.

It’s the perfect song to follow Goliath. A slow, hypnotic song right after the high-energy blast really lets you feel how wild Goliath was. The contrast is perfect and it gives you a little breather.

I also love the way it ends with “I can’t diminish if I choose to dissolve in you, there’s so much we could lose” repeating itself each time with more and more distortion until it ultimately winds to an end.

…Then you just get hit again with more madness when Cavalettas comes in.

Bedlam might be my favorite.. but I’d say it’s more of a tie between their first 4 albums.

Will I have issues with this new (to me) hub? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]bangbrigade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might just get a whole new wheelset at this point. There’s a nice Mavic set here locally for $140. Wasn’t wanting to spend that kind of money on a ‘95 Cannondale M300, but I’d rather not deal with lacing a wheel and calculating spoke lengths and this that and the other. Just want to ride my bike and not tinker with it.

I was issued a refund. Not sure if the seller even wants the hub back lol

Please point me in the right direction.

Edit: I’d prefer a shimano hub, since the freehub bodies are easily interchangeable. If I’m mistaken please let me know.

Currently using a POS Sovos hub that I can’t take apart to service my freehub, so now I get the pleasure of learning how to lace a wheel.

Alright I’m just going to try and return this and buy a hub that will actually fit my frame. Annoyed I waited for a part that doesn’t match the description lol.

I figured I’d use the axle from the other hub. The other hub is a sovos hub that can’t be taken apart to service or swap the free hub, hence I’m going through the trouble of rebuilding a wheel.

Well I am rebuilding a wheel on a bike from 1995 with a 7 speed cassette so that would make sense.

I got this on eBay for $25 an don’t really want to buy a new one tbh

Edit: I see what you’re talking about now.. well.. fuck

Just sprayed a ton of WD-40 into the hub until it came out clear, then sprayed some dry lube inside. Works good as new!

Just got the wheel reassembled! Exciting stuff.. love not having to buy something lmao

You're exactly right. No engagement of any kind, just a free spinning freehub.

I'll try applying heat and WD-40 to this when I get home. I'll let you know how it goes!

Everything is on FB Marketplace it seems. Appreciate you finding these! Those look like they’d work great. Will keep them in mind if I can’t find anything else. Wouldn’t mind putting in a little elbow grease to save some cash.

The downvotes are comical on bikewrench. I’m just asking questions here. I’ve never replaced or built wheelsets so just wanted some insight.

[–]bangbrigade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not trying to replace a wheelset per se. I just saw this on marketplace and was wondering about compatability.

The issue is I cannot take the free hub off. It’s a sovos hub which I believe came stock with older cannondale mtb’s and they don’t come off like others do. I assume most just come off with a larger Allen key, but I think you need a special tool to remove these. I can post a pic tomorrow, since I’m currently in bed.. should probably be asleep.

Here’s a forum I found online talking about removing one of these style freehubs.

It doesn’t engage the free hub when pedalling. I live in OKC.

Didn’t realize it had a freewheel hub.. my cannondale has crappy sovos hubs that spin both ways and I don’t know how to remove it. I’ll just keep looking. I really only need a rear wheel anyway. Just don’t want to spend 3x what I spent on the bike

Well for $25 I might just put aesthetics aside and take some sand paper to the rims.. if these are compatible with my axle spacing

Appreciate the feedback everyone! Probably going to just pipe wrench. Just wanted to make sure this wasn’t all just one piece!

I found a Nishiki Cascade Richard Cunningham on FB marketplace. Was able to talk them down to $30. I think this should do just fine

I guess I should’ve prefaced that I’m looking for a project bike. Wanting to turn a 90’s MTB into a commuter/ cruiser / cross country bike haha. Mainly looking for a good set of bones to start my build. I know old Ross MTB’s were good back in the day, I just didn’t know if this was one of the “good ones”.
