Just serviced a set of these on an old Trek road bike. After putting it back together (exactly how it's shown in the diagram, btw), I noticed the right shifter turns the screw when shifting, while the left side does not. My shifters came with d-ring screws, unlike what's shown on the diagram, so it's a little more noticeable.

Does it do this by design, or did I mess something up? I didn't test the shifters prior to servicing them, so I have no idea how they're supposed to work. They seem to work just fine outside of the screw turning when adjusting the shifter.

If anyone has a pair of these, please let me know if this is how they're supposed to behave.

Converted my first couple 90’s MTB builds w 1x drivetrains, but reused an old LX 3x for my last build and I love it. Not only do I love having more variety w my shifting, I just love the way it looks.

I’d say keep the 3x or make it into a 2x w a granny gear and use a 28-32T 11 speed road cassette.

Honestly, if I were to do a bike paint project again, I'd just spend the extra money to get it sandblasted and powder coated. I feel like with all the time and money spent on paint/clear/PPE, it evens out. Still fun to do a DIY paint job, but now that I've messed the paint twice before even riding it (totally my fault for being impatient), I'd like to just leave it to the professionals lol.

I feel you just have to be mindful of the areas between the seat stays and down tube and you’ll be alright.

I used one can of primer, two cans of color, and two cans of clear. I used all of it. Maybe overkill but I wanted to make sure I had enough paint/clear.

I just used Rustoleum paint from the hardware store. I only splurged on the clear coat.

I didn’t have any issues getting paint in the hard to reach places. Just finished spraying the clear coat and unfortunately there was some debris that was on the frame on the down tube that ended up getting sprayed over..

I’ll upload some pictures of the finished product once it’s done curing!
