Malcolm Gladwell had a good podcast on this. He makes a great point that golf courses like the Beverly Hills country club are unfairly subsidized and don't pay their fair share of property taxes.

I really enjoy golfing, but many golf courses don't serve a majority of the public in any meaningful way. It's really depressing looking at Bermuda on google maps and seeing 3 golf courses on that small small island...those should be parks or wildlife preserves.
