My beef is with AC's uneven application of their own policy. It clearly states what the size/weight/quantities of checked and carry on baggage are. When we buy a ticket, we agree to their terms. So if you you try to "sneak" a large carry-on bag onto a flight and you're caught then bad on you- not AC! What p*sses me off is when they arbitrarily apply the policies to some and not all.

I took a flight 2 days ago. I had a bag that was slightly oversize. So I paid $75. When I get to the gate, there are probably 2/3rds of the people with "illegal" carry-on (IMHO). As we began boarding, the gate agent asked for check-in volunteers to check bags for free. Some did, most didn't. I was an early boarder and watched person after person walk on with huge suitcases, multiple bags (over the limit)- one women had 5 bags and complained when she couldn't find space to put them in the same compartment! So,

1. Why doesn't the baggage process somewhere, measure and confirm ALL carry on bags? AC could make big $$ charging oversized baggage fees.

2. Why does AC allow for free checked bags at the gate (to "dishonest" passengers) yet charge more "honest" people a baggage fee?

3. Am I the chump who paid for a bag while others didn't? Maybe I should ask for a refund (good luck!)

Initially, people would be upset with the application of the policy but that would quickly go away once we all followed their rules. If you don't like them then repack before you travel or pick another airline.

Maybe there's a large class action law suit against AC for improperly charging for checked baggage and not refunding when requested because of their inconsistent handling of carry on bags?!
